Administrative Assistant (Gap Student)
Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunities to socialise outside working hours. All are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.
It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in September 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand-new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.
The role
Westminster Under School is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Gap Year Student to support all areas of the day-to-day running of the School. Gap Year Students fulfil an important responsibility, with postholders encouraged to take a full and active role within the School. They report principally to the school receptionist, helping to run reception, and assist with registration, school trips, supervision at break and lunchtime, and extra-curricular activities such as sport and drama productions. Gap Year Students also provide administrative support to members of staff at the Under School, including photocopying and other support as necessary, such as refreshing display boards and resources for lessons.
This role is designed for a recent school leaver, providing a grounded experience in administration and in an educational environment. The goal is to help them gain experience for further employment and / or studies. The post will suit someone who is confident and self-directed, and who enjoys working with and engaging with younger people. The role may be particularly beneficial for someone who is considering a career in education, though this is not essential. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator who is empathetic, approachable and supportive. Strong organisational and administration skills, with great attention to detail, are integral to the role. They will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who can build and maintain effective relationships with all members of the school community and inspire and motivate pupils.
This is a term-time only role, fixed for one academic year from September 2026 to July 2027. The salary is £21,613.22 (actual), equating to a full-time equivalent of £28,860.00 per annum.
