Barnardo's Surrey Neurodevelopmental Services are offered to children, parents, carers and professionals in partnership with Surrey Mindworks.
One of our services, Surrey Positive Parenting provides support to parents/carers whose children are aged 6-18 years who are in receipt of, or who are awaiting a diagnosis of, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our service is offered to the whole county of Surrey.

Surrey Positive Parenting delivers upskilling programmes to groups of parents/carers across the county of Surrey predominantly through MS Teams. The service also offers the programmes which last 6-8 weeks to schools for the parents/carers of that school. This service works solely with the parents/carers. A DBS will be required.

Essential for the role:

Full UK Driving Licence and access to car
Business Car Insurance once appointed for the role
Understanding and experience of ADHD through professional or personal journey
Ability to work independently and part of a team
Ability and experience of delivery group work, ideally to parents/carers
Confident speaker and ability to maintain engagement in a group setting, in person and online
Strong IT skills and willingness to learn our recording systems
Safe working from home space which provides a confidential and quiet space to be able to conduct our sessions which are confidential
Able to work one evening a week, with potential/optional additional work if there is a need to cover colleagues who are not in work, this can be short notice but is offered to whole team
Some storage space required at home to safely store, in a provided lockable rucksack, your work laptop, phone and card reader for our recording systems as well as some session materials, handbooks, supportive non confidential paperwork. This extends to but not limited to, items like flipcharts and projectors on occasions for when delivering a programme in a school/venue
Strong understanding of EDI - equality, diversity and inclusion. This is a core value of Barnardo's in the way we work and support our families
Strong safeguarding skills and ability to adopt our safeguarding policy and procedures through training and implementation within the role 

Desirable for the role:Previous role delivering group support to parents/carers about a neurodevelopmental condition or parental wellbeing

Understanding or experience of SystmOne

Living in or close to Surrey, UK as this will support your time and travel to our in person sessions and/or meetings

Currently our colleagues are being placed on a hybrid contract. Barnardo's are committed to ensuring our contracts best match the type of work that is assigned to our services. Although a higher percentage of this role is home based, our office location is our Surrey Wellbeing Hub in Leatherhead. Mileage claims are currently made from this address. Materials and session equipment is stored at this office and some meetings happen at our office. There is also the option to travel to a Surrey venue, a London Barnardo's Office or our Essex Head Office, as sometimes are training can be offered at various locations.

The 18.5 hours for this role are worked over 3 days. One of these days includes an evening session, not on Fridays. The evening day shift usually starts at 12:30pm, and finishes around 8:30/9pm. Alternatively, it could be worked 9am-8:30pm with a larger break in the middle of the day for example 1pm-5pm. This can be discussed at interview. The other 2 days are usually worked 9:30am-3:00pm. At present we can offer this role on either Monday-Wednesday, Tuesday-Thursday, or Wednesday-Friday. They must be 3 consecutive days. This can also be discussed at interview.


There might be possibilities for flexible working when we have colleagues off rota or in training. We can sometimes offer overtime or Time off In Lieu for different/extra hours worked, for example covering a group on a different day due to holiday within the team. This is not part of the contract and is at managers discretion and offered to all colleagues fairly. There may also be opportunities to shadow and support our other services within our Mindworks contract as part of your onboarding experience. Across the team/s Wednesday is a key working day, this is the day we most likely book all team meetings online or in person, staff training or office meetings.
