Part-time

Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity working locally to bring people together, take positive action on the climate emergency and support people through fuel poverty and food insecurity. We deliver a range of projects, events and skills training to achieve the needs and goals of local people – building resilience as a community and working towards a future where everyone can live better and tread more lightly on our planet.

Based in the heart of Kirkcaldy – with a community building, training kitchen, bike shop and garden – we carry out activities across Kirkcaldy and work with partners to deliver projects across Fife.

Greener Kirkcaldy has delivered cycling activities, including training and group rides, since 2017. We opened Lang Toun Cycles, our Community Bike Shop, in 2020, with the aim to develop a thriving social enterprise that sits alongside our wider work to promote cycling in Kirkcaldy and help people reduce their car use. Lang Toun Cycles is now part of our Active Travel Hub – a one-stop shop where local people can get support on active and sustainable travel, as well as buy cycling accessories, hire from one of our bike libraries, or bring their bike for servicing and repair.

The Active Travel Team currently consists of our Active Travel Project Manager, Cycle Workshop and Retail Coordinator, Cycle Mechanics and Cycling Outreach Development Workers, plus volunteers who assist in activities.

The Role

The Active Travel Hub Shop Assistant will be part of a small team working within the Active Travel Hub on Saturdays. This is a customer service and administrative role, helping to manage cycle servicing and repairs, bike hires and loans, and handling enquiries. There is an opportunity to be trained in cycle mechanics and assist with servicing and repair of bikes, if that is of interest.

This is a part-time (seven hours per week) post. You must be able to work Saturdays.

We will provide full training and you will be supported by a great team.

Diversity and inclusion

We want Greener Kirkcaldy to be an inclusive and diverse charity where everyone feels supported, valued and able to be themselves. We take part in Fife Centre for Equalities’ Equality Pathfinders programme. We also take part in the Race Equality Environmental Programme facilitated by CEMVO Scotland. Our Equalities Action Plan sets out the steps we are taking to improve diversity and inclusion.

To achieve our vision of Kirkcaldy as a greener and fairer place to live, we need a diverse team. We encourage applications from people of any background. We know that our sector particularly lacks staff and volunteers with Minority Ethnic backgrounds and disabled people.
