We have an incredible opportunity for an Accredited Counsellor to join our Hidden Wounds Service at Help for Heroes and play a vital role in supporting veterans and their families to live well after service.
About the Role
Counsellors are accountable for the assessment, formulation, and treatment planning for clients referred to our Psychological Wellbeing Service up to and including Step 3 level of support. They are also responsible for generating individual risk support plans for beneficiaries based upon psychological wellbeing assessments enabling wider recovery teams to support beneficiaries to safely participate in a variety of recovery activities. You will have a chance to deliver evidence-based group psychoeducation programmes and work within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing high class service to our Armed Forces community.
About You
You will have graduated from a BACP accredited course, or professional counselling or psychotherapy training and are a BACP accredited counsellor or have significant experience and be eligible for accreditation and willing to work towards.
You will have exceptional communication skills with an emphasis on compassionate, ethical and supportive language and manner. You will also be able to interpret psychometric scores and perform psychological wellbeing assessments to appropriately identify the level of support needed as well as onward refer individuals where their level of need falls outside of the scope of available service provision. If you have these qualifications, skills and experience then this might be the role for you.
About the Team
Our Hidden Wounds Team is pivotal in delivering on our mission to support the armed forces community to live well after service, and in championing mental health. Our services are primarily delivered nationally through remote means, and you will be joining a diverse team of multidiscipline experts within the field of veteran mental health support.

Interview Process: Two-stage interview process, with both stages held via Microsoft Teams. Stage one will be a competency-based interview on W/C 9th March with the Hidden Wounds Service Manager (Counselling) and one of our Senior Counsellors. Stage two will take place on Tuesday 17 March 2026 and will be with one of our Senior Counsellor(s) and a beneficiary/service user.
