This is an exciting time to join Emmanuel House. We are seeking an experienced Accommodation
Manager to join our vibrant staff team and play a key role in shaping the future of our
accommodation services. You will have real scope to develop and lead Emmanuel House’s
accommodation provision, working closely with staff, volunteers and partners across the city to
ensure our accommodation services deliver excellent outcomes for residents while aligning with
Emmanuel House’s values and strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Emmanuel House’s accommodation services across Nottingham, including a night
shelter and dispersed accommodation sites, ensuring they are safe, respectful and well-run.
Support and develop staff and volunteers by providing clear leadership, regular supervision
and a positive, supportive team culture.

•  Create and sustain a person-centred, trauma-informed culture that supports people
experiencing homelessness and enables staff and volunteers to work reflectively and
compassionately.

•  Hold complexity and risk well by using sound judgement to balance safety, care and

operational demands in a challenging and changing environment.

•  Ensure high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, housing management and record-

keeping across all accommodation services.

•  Build and maintain strong working relationships with partners across the city, including
statutory services, voluntary organisations, landlords, community and faith groups.

•  Actively contribute to Emmanuel House’s management team, supporting the organisation’s

mission, values and strategic direction.

Full Job Description

Summary

We are looking for an experienced manager who is comfortable leading teams and services, and who
values practical, hands-on leadership. The role combines strong operational judgement with a
deeply person-centred approach. You will lead staff and volunteers, shape services in partnership
with others, and ensure our accommodation offers safety, stability and the opportunity to move
forward.

This role is about holding complexity well, supporting teams in demanding environments, and
creating safe, respectful spaces for people experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the Accommodation Services

•  Provide overall leadership for Emmanuel House’s accommodation services, ensuring they

are safe, welcoming and well-managed throughout the year.
Support strategic oversight of the night shelter and dispersed accommodation provision
across the city.

•  Maintain and develop a person-centred, trauma-informed approach, embedding

Psychologically Informed Environments and strengths-based practice into everyday work.
•  Ensure accommodation services reflect Emmanuel House’s values, ethos and commitment

to respect, inclusion and care.

2. Develop and Shape the Service

•

Lead the ongoing development and review of accommodation services, responding
thoughtfully to changing needs and external pressures.

•  Work with the Emmanuel House management team and wider partners to shape Emmanuel

House’s contribution to winter and year-round homelessness provision.

•  Contribute to city-wide homelessness discussions and planning, working collaboratively with

statutory and voluntary sector partners.

•  Build and maintain strong relationships with landlords, community organisations and faith

groups.

3. Lead and Support the Team

•

Lead, support and develop staff working within accommodation services, providing clear
direction, regular supervision and reflective support.

•  Recruit, induct and retain staff who share Emmanuel House’s values and can work

•

compassionately in a challenging environment.
Foster a positive, supportive team culture that recognises the emotional impact of
homelessness work and prioritises staff wellbeing.

•  Oversee volunteering within accommodation services, ensuring volunteers feel valued,

supported and meaningfully involved.

4. Ensure Safe, High-Quality Practice

•  Ensure accommodation services operate to high professional standards, with clear and

appropriate policies and procedures in place.

•  Maintain robust systems and practice relating to safeguarding, health and safety, risk

assessment, fire safety, food hygiene and incident reporting.

•  Ensure housing management arrangements are clear and fair, including referrals,

assessments, rent policies, rent collection and move-on processes.

•  Ensure records are accurate, timely and handled appropriately.

5. Operational Oversight

•  Hold responsibility for accommodation service budgets and expenditure.
•  Monitor occupancy and take action to minimise voids across accommodation provision.
•  Ensure appropriate on-call arrangements and management cover are in place at all times.
•  Oversee the opening, development or closure of accommodation provision in line with

organisational decisions.
Liaise with external providers to ensure staff have the systems and training they need to
work effectively.

6. General Duties

Demonstrable experience of motivating and managing a large team

Proven interpersonal skills, including an ability to work with teams of

Good working knowledge of statutory regulations relating to homeless
