Job Description
Waking Nights Support Worker – 18 hours a week
Are you looking for night work? Would you like to support adults with learning disabilities if they wake during the night?
We are looking for a Waking Night Support Worker to join our friendly team of Support Workers in Stoke Mandeville! Even though it is a night time position, we all know a good night’s sleep is important for how we feel the next day, so you will be making a real difference in someone’s life even when they are asleep.
The role is a part-time position 2 nights per week 10:00pm - 7:00am
What will you be doing?
As a Waking Nights Support Worker, your main role will be regularly checking in on the people who draw on our support whilst they sleep, making sure that everything is ok and that they are getting a good night’s sleep. Sometimes they wake-up during the night, and so you will then support them in whatever they may need. This may be reassuring and chatting with them so that they are able to go back to sleep, or providing support with personal care and medication. Most importantly, your role is to make sure the people who draw on our support are safe and do not feel vulnerable throughout the night.
You will support three individuals who have been living together since 2014. They enjoy getting out and about as much as possible, whether that's cycling, bowling, swimming, going on holiday or to the cinema so a good nights sleep is essential.
All three individuals are non-verbal, so you'll learn how to communicate using visual tools and verbal prompts. You'll discover that every tiny thing you do has an impact, and when you get it right, you'll know you've got it right: you'll see someone's body relax or their eyes light up.
"Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorships as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding.
