What You’ll Do
As a Community Living Assistant, you will:
- Provide tailored, person-centred support to adults with a range of disabilities
- Assist with personal care (washing, dressing), medication, communication and meals
- Support daily living routines and help maintain tenancies at home
- Accompany individuals to appointments, social activities, education and community events
- Enable participation in meaningful leisure and recreational pursuits
- Work one-to-one or two-to-one based on individual needs
You’ll help customers live life their way, with dignity, choice, independence and involvement in the life of their community.
About You
We’re looking for people who are:
- Compassionate, flexible and committed to person-centred support
- Experienced in supporting adults with disabilities in community or home settings
- Comfortable working rotational shifts, including evenings, weekends and nights
- Holder of a manual UK driving licence with access to their own car(essential for this community-based work and outings) - mileage expenses are paid.

ASSISTANT HOUSE PARENT JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: ASSISTANT HOUSE PARENT - ISS Responsible to: Welfare Manager Main Purpose: The Assistant House Parents are responsible for working closely with the House Parent within their house, and the Welfare Manager to ensure excellent standards of pastoral care for the pupils on the summer school programme. Assistants will be led by their House Parents to ensure that all pupils enjoy a warm, welcoming, supportive atmosphere, and that the house is run smoothly to protect the safety and wellbeing of international pupils within the boarding house. Course Dates: The course in 2026 will run for 4 weeks, and we will be offering contracts of varying lengths, depending on the candidates’ availability and experience and our student numbers. All candidates must attend on-site induction prior to the start date (outlined below). If candidates have holidays, weddings, graduations etc booked, they must mention this at the interview stage. Time off for such events cannot be guaranteed otherwise. The course is run on the Senior School campus (Sedbergh), with three London trips running throughout the course. See breakdown of dates below (subject to change). - - - - 27th – 30th June 2026: London trip (induction takes place on 26th June in London) 30th June – 25th July: Senior School campus at Sedbergh (induction begins in Sedbergh on 27th June or 2nd July, depending on contract start date) 18th – 21st July: London trip 25th – 28th July: London trip Summer School roles are residential and involve variable hours, including evenings and weekends. Weekly pay reflects both active working hours and periods of standby/on-call duty. Staff receive one full day off per week and reasonable daily rest periods. Roles and Responsibilities: Assistant House Parents will be guided and supported by their House Parent and the Welfare Manager to: • Establish a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the House, demonstrating superior pastoral care and discipline of students, ensuring that their safety and physical and emotional wellbeing is the top priority. • Ensure appropriate standards of behaviour are always upheld in the House, managing pupil conduct and behaviour, to promote harmony within the boarding house. • Ensure active management and supervision of all pupils during mealtimes to provide a pleasant dining experience for all pupils. • Ensure roll calls, registers, fire drills etc. are undertaken as required by legislation. • To be an integral part of the team welcoming pupils and their parents/guardians on arrival and supporting pupils and their parents/guardians on departure. • Ensure that wake up and bedtimes are observed as laid out in the Schedule. • To carry out daily room checks, ensuring that the boarding houses are kept clean and tidy, providing a safe, homely environment within which pupils feel comfortable. • Report any damages to the Operations team as necessary. • Inform pupils about the housekeeping and laundry protocols, ensuring that cleaning and linen changes are completed according to the agreed schedule. • Attending daily meetings with the Welfare Manager. • Referring any student requiring medical attention to the House Parent or Welfare Officer. • Ensuring any sick pupils in house are cared for while they are unable to attend lessons/activities. • Assisting with the extra-curricular programme where necessary. • Ensuring all pupil data is stored or destroyed in line with GDPR policies. • Ensuring the campus is closed down after completion of the course, and returned to its original state, to include all school facilities and equipment. • Assisting at any time, whether on duty or not, with an emergency or where a student is injured or unhappy. • Any other tasks as required to ensure the smooth running of the International Summer School. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of clinics across your defined school caseload. This will include managing your own diary, under the supervision of the service manager and dispensing optician clinical lead, to ensure efficient, timely, high-quality care for all children under our care. You will be responsible for providing spectacle dispensing, repairs, replacements and follow ups to your caseload.
Your responsibilities for the remainder of you Full Time role and school holidays, will be to support the special schools service manager in ensuring the smooth running of the service. The service manager will have overall responsibility for the planning of clinics, and you will support by liaising with schools to book clinic rooms and gain consent from parents, book appointment diaries for yourself and the optometrists, respond to parent and school enquiries and offer and provide teaching staff inset training on eye care and vision.

You will have your own caseload of London schools and will work collaboratively with our established eye care team, as well as the school staff teams, and under the guidance of the special schools service manager and dispensing optician clinical lead. Ability to attend multiple schools in your South London and South East London region is required, as well as a full driving license and regular access to a car.
What will you be doing?
The successful candidate would be expected to work 4-5 school days (20-25 hours) in the school setting during term time. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of clinics across your defined school caseload. This will include managing your own diary, under the supervision of the service manager and dispensing optician clinical lead, to ensure efficient, timely, high-quality care for all children under our care. You will be responsible for providing spectacle dispensing, repairs, replacements and follow ups to your caseload.
Your responsibilities for the remainder of you Full Time role and school holidays, will be to support the special schools service manager in ensuring the smooth running of the service. The service manager will have overall responsibility for the planning of clinics, and you will support by liaising with schools to book clinic rooms and gain consent from parents, book appointment diaries for yourself and the optometrists, respond to parent and school enquiries and offer and provide teaching staff inset training on eye care and vision.

The HR Apprentice will provide administrative and operational support to the HR function while undertaking the CIPD Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship.
