Support Worker
Job Introduction
This position does not meet the requirements for sponsorship under current UK immigration guidelines
Would you like to be part of a small and highly specialised service which is committed to supporting me in the community?
Would you like to involve me and support me to be part of my local community?
Would you like to be well trained, well supported, well paid and know that you are making a positive difference every time you go to work?
As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents' lives as you improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.
Where will I be working?
I’m looking for friendly and supportive people to join my support team and help me live life to the fullest in my home in Castleford and out in the local community.
I’m a man with Fragile X syndrome and a mild to moderate learning disability. Sometimes I experience high anxiety and need plenty of reassurance, and I can show some complex behaviours. That’s why it’s really important to me that my support team understands my needs and approaches things with patience, consistency, and reliability.
I’m looking for support worker who can bring a playful attitude and a good sense of humour, while also setting clear boundaries when needed. If you’re caring, understanding, and ready to make a positive difference, you could be the right fit for me.
When I’m not at home, I love listening to music, watching films, playing Xbox, and going on day trips. If you share some of these interests and enjoy helping others live their best life, I’d love to hear from you!
We use a digital social care record system, to support daily recording, which will make your day-to-day tasks easier and allows you to spend more time with the People We Support. Some aspects of this role will involve lone working.
Shift Patterns
This is a 24 hour service and will require the flexibility to work a shift pattern that includes evenings, weekends, and bank holidays in turn as part of a team. As a person-centred provision, we will look to develop shift patterns around the support needs of the people being supported, and therefore it’s unlikely that there will be a ‘standard’ shift time, and it’s likely that the pattern of work will evolve as people’s lives evolve.
Please note that the shifts may vary.
Role Responsibility
This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:
- promoting the independence of people we support
- supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
- arranging activities in the home and in the local community
- developing individual’s life skills and personal interests
- helping individual’s to stay safe and healthy
- assisting with personal care needs
- manual handling if required
- supporting people with medication
- Ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.
The Ideal Candidate
What skills and qualities do I need to have?
It is essential is that you are:
- passionate, caring and enthusiastic
- flexible, patient and non-judgemental
- a great team player with lots of energy
- able to demonstrate good communication skills
- able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed

Closing date:02/02/2026
Location:St Albans
Job Description
Are you driven to make a real difference in children's lives? Join our dedicated team as a Support Worker at our children's home, and work to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels secure, valued, and loved.
We are seeking a full-time Support Worker to join our team in St Albans, working with children and young people who love staying active, trying new activities, and exploring new places. You'll work a mixture of early shifts from 7am - 3pm, late shifts from 2pm - 10pm, as well as alternating weekends.
You will support four children and young people with learning disabilities in all aspects of their daily lives, bringing your good humour and resilience to make each day both enjoyable and meaningful. From helping them get ready for school and preparing meals to assisting with household chores, you'll see the children's confidence grow as they achieve new milestones.
While new experiences are exciting, your reassuring, calm presence will provide the stability the children need to thrive, guiding them through structured days and teaching essential life skills. While the children are at school, you'll help make their home a welcoming place to return to by tidying and preparing the weekly activity plan for predictable and engaging evenings. You'll also assist with personal care and medication to help each child feel their best. Additionally, you'll have opportunities for personal development through bespoke training and working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
During the school holidays and weekends, you'll help ease the transition from school routines to having fun by supporting the young people on exciting outings like visiting the beach or theme parks, as well as engaging with each child's own interests:
- Alex* enjoys his quiet moments, whether it's reading stories with a cup of tea, relaxing in the sensory room, or visiting the farm.
- Arnold is always up for an episode of his favourite soaps, shopping, and finds real achievement in his work experience at the local charity shop.
- Dave loves getting his hands dirty, exploring the garden, and playing in the mud. He's also known for his impish laughter and tickles in the lounge, and spending time in the park with staff.
- Jack has a real sense of play - he loves puzzles, playing games on his iPad, and water play. He's also a fan of his favourite Disney films and has even enjoyed a trip to the theatre.
If you're compassionate, dedicated, and really care about helping children reach their full potential, we'd love to hear from you.
You must be a driver with a UK manual/automatic licence, as you will be driving service vehicles to unlock opportunities for the children. You must also have your own transport that is insured for business use.
- "Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorships as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding."
