The sessional support worker will work as part of the Core Group staff at Lothlorien Community with a key focus on supporting residents to get the most out of their time at Lothlorien.
They will get involved in all aspects of community life including community meetings, work periods and therapeutic sessions. The role will facilitate opportunities for children and young people with additional support needs to lead a meaningful life, spend time with their peers, develop friendships and be part of new experiences. This will result in regular short breaks for parents and carers. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Support • Understand the young person, their personality, preferred communication and any other needs they may have • Have a welcoming, friendly, informative approach and manner towards the young people and the families being supported • Develop a positive approach with the young people to support them to achieve their personalised outcomes • Assist in the development of personalised outcomes • Taking time to complete any relevant forms, reports or communication diaries • Liaise with the coordinator to share any new information, changes or concerns about individual children, young people or families. • Communicate efficiently with families and staff regarding activities taking place. Planning and Service Delivery • Work collaboratively with the team, young person, family and any partner agencies supporting activities • Use your skills and interests to support the development of themes and activities e.g. art, science, music, sport, outdoors. • Develop knowledge of the current opportunities available within and outwith the community. Personal Development • Proactively participate in the in-depth induction pro cess offered by PLUS • Attend regular opportunities for training and team meetings which will enhance your ability and experience in your role. The role
This is an opportunity to gain a wide range of experience within the homeless sector, ranging from support work in hostels, supported housing, community support or day services, to assisting in the practical running of services, including cleaning and catering. Sarah likes to meet new people and enjoys telling them about the amazing life she has had, she is very well travelled. She has many photo scrap book colouring and uses this to relax in the afternoons.
She has a great sense of humour. Once she has built up a relationship with someone she can be very kind natured, making sure that staff have had enough to eat and drink and asking if they are ok.
What would you be doing?
You would need to be enthusiastic, fun and come up with fun and exciting activities whilst being patient and an eager learner. Also, you need to be encouraging, reassuring and clear while communicating. Your colleagues will tell you it's a very rewarding job where no two days are the same.
