Job Description
Are you looking for real job satisfaction? Do you have the right qualities to support children and young people who have learning disabilities?
No two days are the same - this is so much more than just a job!!
You'll join us as a Relief Support Worker in St Albans, working with young people who love to be kept busy trying new things and visiting new places. You will need to be driver with a UK manual licence.
What sort of thing might you be doing? One day you could be visiting the seaside and the next enjoying reading a good book with the boys.
Alex* loves visiting the farm, going to the library, reading stories with a cup of tea and hanging out in the sensory room.
Arnold loves to watch his favourite soaps, clothes shopping and listening to pop music.
Dave cannot get enough of getting messy, exploring in the garden and playing in the mud. Dave loves nothing more than tickles in the lounge and interacting with staff and playing in the park.
Jack enjoys doing puzzles, playing games on his iPad and loves his water play. Jack loves watching all his Disney films and has even enjoyed a trip to the Theatre.
*Names changed for privacy
If all this sounds like a great day at work, then join us on the journey to support each of the young people in a way which makes sense to them and help them create lasting memories.
How Relief works
The Relief (Bank) post supports the permanent rota staff by completing shifts that are vacant due to annual leave/sickness/training/unforeseen circumstances. As such, hours are non specific but the service will endeavour to balance the needs of the service against your own work/life balance as appropriately as possible.
We normally plan the rotas one month in advance and there is no obligation to accept the work. If you unable to do any shifts you will remain on our Relief register for 3 months before automatically dropping off. Of course the more you put in, the more you will get out of this. Could also be a great way to see if this is the career path for you whilst earning some extra money at the same time!
"Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorships as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding."

Belonging at Mencap is for everyone, every day, everywhere.
· Everyone is expected to treat people well and make Mencap an inclusive organisation.
· Every day we grow and learn. It’s okay to make mistakes but we learn from them and make changes
· Everywhere people will feel respected, valued, and safe to be themselves.
We have Belonging network groups that meet online and are open to all colleagues. The groups include people who identify as Black and Asian, LGBTQIA+, disabled or with a long- term health condition, women, parents and carers, and their allies.
