This is a job where you really will be making a difference to people’s lives. You’ll be supporting autistic people with a variety of activities that they enjoy and encouraging independent living skills.
You’ll find this is a rewarding job, which promises variety as no two days are ever the same. You will be positively supporting people by providing holistic support including personal care, medication administration, integration into the local community and managing their anxieties, which they may communicate through distressing behaviour.
No experience is necessary, so don't worry if you don't think you know enough about how to support adults with autism. Full training is given. We are looking for someone who has the right attitude, who shares our values and who we can work with to develop their skills.
If you have experience as a support worker, care assistant, nursery assistant, or personal care assistant or have worked in the NHS, health care or in social care, this position will be suited to you too.
Our support is 24/7. The working pattern is on a rolling rota and includes a variety of shifts - early, lates, sleep-ins, weekends, bank holidays and flexible shift patterns.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To ensure high standards of professional care and practice for service users are established and maintained. Including providing appropriate attention to independent living, physical, cultural, social, learning, vocational aspiration, recreational and emotional need.
2. To ensure high standards of cleanliness across the setting, being mindful of IPC measures in the service you work.
3. Adhere to developing positive working relationships with service users, families and team members, including the ability to know your own limitations and seek support when required.
4. To familiarise with Autism East Midlands systems and processes in delivering high standards of care and support.
5. To ensure all records that you maintain are up to date and are kept secure and confidential, adhering to general data protection regulations (GDPR).
6. To liaise with families, the clinical team and external agencies in a professional manner and record appropriately within the bounds of confidentiality.
7. To further develop an understanding of autism and implement in practice.
8. To further develop an understanding of CALM and Positive Behaviour Support and embed within the service.
9. To complete all elements of the Care Certificate and mandatory training.
10. To access internal IT systems regularly and to log incidents on reporting systems.
11. To ensure compliance with the service finance procedures.
12. To work flexibly as required by the rota and the terms of your contract, and as directed by your manager.
13. To effectively communicate within the team to ensure continuity of care is maintained.
14. To develop an understanding of communication methods of those supported in the service.

Eleanor Rathbone Professor of Contemporary European History

The Faculty of History is seeking applications for the Eleanor Rathbone Professorship of Contemporary European History, available as soon as possible.
This new senior post is intended to reinforce Oxford’s reputation as a major centre for research and teaching in the field of Contemporary European History. We wish to appoint a historian who will extend the Faculty’s expertise into the history of the European present. We would welcome applications from scholars with expertise in the history of Europe from the 1970s onwards and who engage with the history of the European present in the early twenty-first century and the profound changes that have taken place in many areas of Europe over the last twenty-five years.
The Rathbone Professor will be based at St Antony’s College, where they will maintain and develop the legacy of the work and scholarship undertaken on the contemporary history of Europe by Professor Timothy Garton Ash. It is intended that the appointee will be an established scholar who will combine innovative scholarship and teaching with a wider profile of intellectual engagement. Their work should engage with the history of contemporary Europe as a whole, challenging conventional paradigms of east and west in the era of the Cold War. They will be expected to lead the growth of Contemporary European History within Oxford, including new teaching options on recent and current European history, funded grant applications, workshops, public events and outreach, broadly defined.
Applicants should possess an excellent record of innovative archival research using one or more European languages; a significant record of publications; the capacity to inspire others; and an ability to communicate the importance of history for an understanding of the contemporary identity of Europe.

Our bank of sessional workers are essential to ensure we maintain a high quality service. Our sessional wellbeing workers provide annual leave, training and sickness cover across our wellbeing teams. There are a diverse range of shifts available across the teams, including night-shift.
As the role of sessional workers is to provide cover for holiday and sickness absence of permanent staff, we cannot guarantee, or is under any obligation, to offer set / regular hours or a set / regular work pattern. You are also under no obligation to accept shift offered.
Sessional wellbeing workers receive regular training opportunities to ensure they carry out their role in line with the needs of the service.
Our wellbeing teams
Helping people live independently at home by providing person-centered support underpins our wellbeing service. Our wellbeing service supports the following 3 areas:
Wellbeing: Housing First for Young People
Providing support to young people who are at risk or have experienced homelessness, in both a residential and outreach setting. Providing supported accommodation and transitional support, we aim to help equip young people to manage their own permanent tenancy.
Wellbeing: for good mental health
Providing support to individuals experiencing or recovering from mental health related issues we also deliver practical assistance in all aspects of maintaining a tenancy. We can help with a range of varying support needs, including but not limited to, help with form filling and mail, domestic assistance whilst promoting independence, medication prompts, accessing education or training and promoting social engagement.
Wellbeing: for people age 60+
Providing support for people age 60+ this service helps people manage their tenancy and promotes social engagement, as age related health and mobility concerns reduce their confidence. In addition to this, our intervention service provides additional assistance for periods of poor health (through sickness or injury) and help support recovery.
Key responsibilities
- Update and keep accurate records (including, but not limited to support plans, risk assessments, reviews, and case notes).
- Provide a support and guidance to service users, while ensuring professional boundaries are understood and adhered to.
- Solve unexpected problems when the arise.
- Respond to complex issues. Involving relevant internal and external agencies (where appropriate).
- Duties carried out in a professional and safe manner. Ensuring all service users are treated fairly and with dignity and respect.
- Maintain professional standards and knowledge required for the job role, including any registration requirements (e.g. SSSC registration or PVG Membership).

To join us as a Case Officer, with responsibilities as the Child and Young Person Lead, you will have a recognised professional qualification in education, health, social work or equivalent (or equivalent experience) and evidence of a commitment to continuing learning and professional development, preferably with at least two year’s experience in a role working directly with children and young people with SEND, with particular experience of supporting the 16-25 years age group.
With a solution focused, early intervention approach, you will provide both enquiry and casework support for families and young people specifically, including in relation to the Education and Health Care Plan (process), as well as providing impartial advice around a wide range of education, health and social care issues, such as resolving disagreements, mediation and SEND appeals.
You will have the ability to empathise with and assist families of children/young people with additional needs or in crisis. You will demonstrate highly developed interpersonal and active listening skills and first-rate verbal and written communication skills to empower service users to self-advocate.
Main Responsibilities:
• To provide both initial enquiry and casework support for children, young people and their families/representatives through phone calls, emails, online and face-to-face meetings in relation to SEND.
• A key part of this role will be to develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of current legislation complying with statutory guidance and best working practises. To work in-line with Information, Advice & Support Service (IASS). To undertake IPSEA L1-3 training in order to manage enquiries and casework, providing impartial legal information, advice and support in accordance with SEND legislation, policies and SENDIASS Minimum Standards and exemplifications, including the EHCP process, amongst others.
