ASSISTANT HOUSE PARENT JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: ASSISTANT HOUSE PARENT - ISS Responsible to: Welfare Manager Main Purpose: The Assistant House Parents are responsible for working closely with the House Parent within their house, and the Welfare Manager to ensure excellent standards of pastoral care for the pupils on the summer school programme. Assistants will be led by their House Parents to ensure that all pupils enjoy a warm, welcoming, supportive atmosphere, and that the house is run smoothly to protect the safety and wellbeing of international pupils within the boarding house. Course Dates: The course in 2026 will run for 4 weeks, and we will be offering contracts of varying lengths, depending on the candidates’ availability and experience and our student numbers. All candidates must attend on-site induction prior to the start date (outlined below). If candidates have holidays, weddings, graduations etc booked, they must mention this at the interview stage. Time off for such events cannot be guaranteed otherwise. The course is run on the Senior School campus (Sedbergh), with three London trips running throughout the course. Sleepovers are not included in your contracted hours and you’ll receive an additional payment of £100.80 for every sleepover shift you work. TouchBase Glasgow is a modern, purpose-built centre in Kinning Park, designed to support adults with disabilities and additional needs. Our Strathbungo Supported Living Service offers an engaging and dynamic work environment where each day brings unique experiences. We are a dedicated team, committed to delivering exceptional person-centred care to six individuals who are primarily deafblind and have diverse, complex support needs, some of whom may not communicate verbally.
Our Team at Strathbungo strive to empower those we support to lead fulfilling, independent lives through tailored support and engaging activities. Our core principle is value-based communication, customising our support to align with the unique requirements of each individual. In our most recent care inspection, we achieved grade “6 - Excellent” we have also been awarded “Team of the Year 2025”
Who do we support?
At our Strathbungo service, we support four vibrant females, aged between 30 and 60, and 2 outgoing males. 4 individuals have their own flats and two share a flat in the Strathbungo area in Glasgow. They have various health conditions, including epilepsy, deaf-blindness, and mobility issues. Although they live independently, they all stay in the ground floor of a block of flats.
You will work on a 1:1 basis assisting them with day-to-day living, assisting them and encouraging them to live happy meaningful lives and achieve their personal goals/ambitions both at home and in the wider community. Your role will be centred around building trusting relationships as a foundation to assist with practical tasks such as:
- Support within their own homes with personal care, housework, administering medication, meal preparation, support with finances companionship etc
- Liaise with families and other professionals to provide the best quality care
- Promote independence and individuality according to their Support Plan
- Record daily tasks and maintain accurate records
- Work as part of a team, effectively communicating with the staff team, families, and people supported.
The people we support are sociable and always up for fun and love to party! They enjoy local walks, shopping sprees, and movie nights at the cinema. Tuesday nights are a highlight at their favourite disco club, where they meet friends and dance the night away. They look forward to their annual holidays and love planning exciting social activities with friends and family, ensuring every day is filled with joy and laughter.
What’s the shift pattern?
Our Strathbungo service provides round-the-clock support every day of the year. As a Support Worker, you can be contracted up to 37hpw which means you will be required to work 23 shifts over the month therefore some weekend work is required.
Shifts include a mix of early shifts (07:30 – 14:30) and late shifts (14:30 – 21:30) with a requirement for some sleepover duties.

About the service
Dundee Day Support Services is registered under one branch within the Care Inspectorate covering more than one location - Support Service without Care at Home.
Dundee Support Services operates from 8am until 10pm over 7 days across two bases in Dundee. All the adults we support have a learning disability and /or physical disability and complex communication support needs.
Our enthusiastic team pride themselves in assisting the people they support to live a full, active and independent lifestyles despite any challenges they face. Our services offer excellent facilities and opportunities for these individuals to be involved in a range of activities. Our team also provide a safe, warm space to meet up and socialise with their peers, all while receiving specialist therapeutic support.
Your job will be to provide a person-centred care package in order to meet the needs of the people using the service, including support individuals with their personal care, moving and assisting routines, support with non-verbal communication and sensory techniques, support the adults to have lots of fun and achieve goals within their life.
• The Hillview base offers a more therapeutic type of support using a base where there are activity spaces available to support on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis.
• Community Links is a drop-in space offering a place to rest, eat or be supported with personal care.
