Specialist Carer Band 3 (Grade 6 Equiv.)
This role may be perfect for you if you are currently, or have been, a Healthcare Assistant, and are looking for a part-time role (minimum contract 22.5 hours). At Noah’s Ark you’ll have opportunity to build on your experience and be trained to a more specialist level.
ABOUT NOAH’S ARK CHILDREN’S HOSPICE
We exist to help babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and their families, make the most of every day. Our mission is to enable those we support to enjoy life as children, not patients; as families, not just as carers.
Because everyone deserves to live life as themselves, beyond their condition or circumstances. We do this by listening to families. We know one size doesn’t fit all, so we cater our services to each individual person we support. We can do this from the point of diagnosis.
Our help is available wherever it is needed. Our expert staff and trained volunteers can provide support in a families home, in the community, or at our state-of-the-art building, The Ark, in Barnet.
We work in collaboration with key NHS Trusts and other care providers to deliver the very best support to children and families. We have created a space where children with complex needs are accepted as they are, safe to play, explore, express themselves and build confidence.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re expanding our team and are looking for more Specialist Carers to join our charity. You’ll be joining an award-winning, certified Outstanding team, who do all they can to empower children and families to experience as much life as possible.
As a Specialist Carer, you’ll provide life-changing care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. You’ll do this by working in collaboration with their family, multidisciplinary teams, and your other Noah’s Ark colleagues.
You’ll be encouraged to put the experience of children and families at the heart of all you do. As well as understanding their clinical needs, you’ll get to know what’s important to each child you support. Whether it’s knowing what their favourite song to listen to is, how they like to play, or what sooths them when they are sad – at Noah’s Ark it’s so important that each child is treated as an individual. You’ll focus on what children can do, rather than their limitations, and will support them to experience things they may never have thought possible.
And by providing care for children, either at our state-of-the art building, The Ark, or out in the community, you’ll be allowing parents and cares to take some time for themselves. The hours of care you’ll provide will make a huge difference, allowing them to live life outside of their child’s condition. By creating this time, you’ll be creating choice – something which can feel impossible for the families we support
Your commitment to children and families will continue through to end-of-life care. You’ll be a guiding reassuring presence for families and working with other healthcare professionals to create as much comfort as possible.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll have experience working with babies, children, and young people in a health, education or social setting. You’ll understand the power of play and will enjoy creating experiences and activities for those you are caring for.
Aside from experience, we look for individuals who share our core values of kindness, excellence and courage. We’ll support you to go above and beyond to be there for the children and families we support – we ask that you share this mission with us.
You’ll thrive working autonomously, confident in your ability to deliver care on your own out in the community. You’ll know the value of collaboration, and will work closely with your team members, other healthcare professionals and the families you support to provide the very best care.
Creativity and play will be central to your approach to care, with the ability to build long-term relationships with the children and families you care for.
You will be available to work a variety of shits, including days, evenings, nights and weekends. You will have a full UK driving license and access to your own car. You will be paid for travel time, reimbursed for car parking and will have a generous mileage allowance.
OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
We are a Disability Confident Employer. Part of our commitment is to interview all applications with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for this role, and consider them based on their abilities.
Our Diversity Council is working hard to construct positive changes within our charity and we particularly welcome applications from groups who are currently under-represented in our staff.

Type of contract: Permanent
Location Great Western Hospital, Marlborough Road, Swindon, SN3 6BB,

Work closely with: Anyone affected by leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) or myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). This includes patients, carers and family members. Liaising with hospital staff, nurses, other support charities, care workers and staff at Leukaemia Care.
You will refer patients, carers and family members internally to advocacy, welfare, support groups and other services as appropriate.
WHO WE ARE, AND WHAT WE DO
Leukaemia Care is the UK’s leading leukaemia charity. For over 50 years, we have been dedicated to ensuring that everyone affected receives the best possible diagnosis, information, advice, treatment and support.
We are here for everyone affected by leukaemia and related blood cancer types – such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).
We provide information, advice and support for anyone affected, this includes patients and their friends and families too. We raise awareness of the issues impacting people affected by leukaemia, MDS and MPN, and campaign to fix them. We are driving early diagnosis, raising public awareness, improving services and ensuring access to effective treatments.
How do we do this? We have a wide-range of services aimed at patients and their loved ones from diagnosis and beyond. Our support services range from nurse-led helplines, support groups and free-of-charge medical information to access to paid counselling, grants for those feeling the financial strain of a diagnosis and providing buddies so people always have somebody to talk to who have experienced something similar to them. We encourage you to have a read of our website and find out all the ways we support from diagnosis and beyond.
Crucial to our work is raising awareness of leukaemia as a blood cancer and the importance for early diagnosis. Leukaemia can be difficult to spot as the symptoms are similar to many other common conditions. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of the signs of leukaemia and this leads to diagnosis being delayed, which can worsen outcomes for patients.
As well as working to educate the general public through our #SpotLeukaemia campaign, we are working closely with our colleagues working in front line medical services to ensure they have the most up-to-date information on diagnosing leukaemia. We know that by raising awareness and working to educate health care professionals, we can save lives and improve outcomes.
Overview
This is an excellent opportunity if you wish to develop your career in patient support and services. Any necessary training will be provided for the successful candidate. You should be proactive, enthusiastic, and excited about becoming part of a team looking to develop and implement the charity’s plans for the patient service team.
You will provide patient support and raise awareness of the services we have at Leukaemia Care at the hospital. You will talk to patients, carers and family members, offering support, information and clear signposting to our services and other relevant organisations.
You will be based on the haematology ward/clinic and this is a non-clinical role. You will be required to record all your work so administration is part of this role.

Job Description Head of Early Years (HEYFS) Required: January / Easter 2026 Reporting to: Head of Junior School Hours: Full Time Closing date: Tuesday 4th November, 12:00 noon Interview date: Wednesday 12th November The Role This is an exciting opportunity for an inspiring and experienced Early Years leader to shape the very first stage of our pupils’ educational journey. As Head of Early Years (HEYFS), you will lead a dynamic, creative and nurturing team at Little King’s, ensuring that every child experiences a joyful, ambitious and carefully tailored start to school life. With the autonomy to innovate across the Early Years curriculum and a close connection to the wider school community, this role offers the chance to make a profound and lasting impact on children’s learning, development and love of discovery. The Head of Early Years at King's is a key leadership role within the Junior School Leadership Team (JSLT), responsible for the strategic, academic, and pastoral oversight of Little King's, and plays a critical role in pupil recruitment. This role reflects the latest UK EYFS Framework, emphasising inclusive, high-quality early education and smooth transitions into Reception and Year 1. The School The King’s School is one of the dozen oldest schools in the country and has a proud heritage dating back to at least 1087, with a re-foundation in 1541. King’s is the Cathedral School in the city of Gloucester, whilst the surrounding county is home to many excellent grammar and state schools, as well as other independent schools. King’s is held in high regard amidst this competitive area; our academic, co-curricular and pastoral attainment is second to none. As a result, the last three ISI reports for King’s have all been classified as ‘excellent’ in every area. Local media brand SoGlos has awarded King’s the title of ‘Independent School of the Year’ or ‘Highly Commended’ in every one of the last six years – a feat unmatched by any other local independent school – most recently winning the title in May 2025. Despite the multiple national-scale challenges of recent years, King’s has seen its pupil roll growing steadily and parental satisfaction scoring very highly indeed. With careful investment in the campus and facilities, as well as a continuous focus on improving teaching and learning and developing our outstanding pastoral care, King’s is now seen as a dynamic, forward-thinking and impressive place to study and to work. The Department Little King’s is a vibrant, warm, and purposeful Early Years setting nestled within The King’s School, Gloucester. From ages three to five, the department is driven by a philosophy that learning should be joyful, stimulating and rooted in strong, supportive relationships. Staff at Little King’s offer an individualised curriculum, responsive to children’s needs and interests, where early learning goals are enriched by outdoor opportunities – Forest School, trips to places like Crickley Hill and the Forest of Dean, and use of the School’s own secret garden and pond. Parents are partners in the journey: through excellent home-school links, access to online learning journals, and regular, honest communication, the child’s development is shared and celebrated together. The environment itself feels part of something bigger – Little King’s is physically within the Junior School, fostering a strong sense of belonging to the wider King’s community and aiding smooth transitions as children grow. In Little King’s you’ll find a team of experienced, caring professionals who value resilience, confidence, independence and academic, emotional, and social growth equally. The culture is one of high expectations, mutual support, and creative freedom. If you’re seeking a department you can lead with vision, collaborate with passionate colleagues, and help lay foundations for lifelong learning, Little King’s offers just that.
