The International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders (IJLCD) is the RCSLT’s international, peer-reviewed journal, which publishes research focusing on speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders, and other relevant aspects of speech & language therapy.
We are seeking a new Associate Editor for the IJLCD to join our supportive editorial team.
The role of Associate Editor offers the post-holder the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the dissemination of quality research in speech & language therapy.
What we are looking for
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Have a PhD in a relevant academic discipline
- Possess a proven track record (peer-reviewed publications, presentations at conferences, and/or other research enabling activities) within paediatric / child-focused research
- Have experience of carrying out peer-review
- Commit to carrying out the role for a minimum term of three years
- Be able to participate in four editorial meetings a year
Experience as an SLT and membership of the RCSLT is desirable.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies is looking to recruit a Research Analyst to work for the IISS Defence and Military Analysis Programme (DMAP), focusing on air and space forces and the air and space domains. The programme’s major print and online output is the IISS flagship publication The Military Balance and the Military Balance+ electronic database, widely regarded as the global benchmark in the assessment of national military capabilities and defence economics.
- Reporting to the aerospace data team lead; collect, assess and validate air and space domain force structure, equipment inventory and deployment data for IISS publications and databases.
- Assist in DMAP research and analysis on air and space forces and military aerospace issues.
- Contribute as required across the spectrum of DMAP activities.

The flat is attached to Cranford Avenue, as part of the tied accommodation. This is tied accommodation where rent is payable at a discounted rate and will be discussed in more detail at interview.

Overview: The Nest Holmfirth CIC provides essential support to parents and their under 5's. Our mission is to improve parental wellbeing and support early years development. The Nest is run by parents, for parents. Based in a bustling community building, The Nest offers a variety of classes, sessions and workshops, all to support parental mental and physical health, as well as to support the learning of babies and toddlers.
The role of Director is an opportunity to influence the running of The Nest Holmfirth CIC and shape its future. Working with other committed Directors and staff, you will gain valuable experience of leading, sustaining and developing a small community organisation. Directors take legal responsibility for the governance of the organisation, and this is supported by staff.
Time commitment: We have around four Director meetings per year, plus ad-hoc events in the year which Directors are sometimes expected to attend. Directors are also involved in correspondence and decision-making in between meetings. Some Directors may take on a specific role (e.g. Chair, Safeguarding Lead etc) which is dependent on vacancy and suitability of skills and experience. The expected time commitment of a Director is in the region of 1 to 4 hours per week which will vary over the year.

About CaSE
Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE) exists to advocate for UK R&D, for the benefit of lives and livelihoods.
We are a charity and the leading independent voice for UK R&D, supported by a diverse membership of businesses, universities, professional bodies, research charities and individuals. Our organisational members span discovery research, science, engineering and innovation across the public, private, and charitable sectors.
We collaborate with our members, partners and the public to lend our expert voice to decisions about R&D. We specialise in developing non-partisan, responsive solutions that help R&D to thrive in ways that improve people’s lives and livelihoods.
CaSE is a small organisation that has a big impact. Recent projects have included exploring a public-led vision for the future of R&D in the UK, understanding how R&D can build stronger links with communities, highlighting the role of R&D in the Government’s five missions, mapping out the future of R&D in universities, and bringing R&D to the attention of politicians during the 2024 General Election campaign. CaSE maintains an active media presence and hosts events, such as our flagship Annual Lecture.

The opportunity
This is an opportunity to shape the UK’s leading independent voice for R&D. As Chair, you will be tasked with getting the most out of CaSE’s talented Board members and strategically channelling this to support CaSE’s small but highly productive team.
You would be taking up the role at a moment of great change and opportunity for CaSE, with a growing and integrated programme of work that is combining our strengths in shaping policy and understanding public opinion.
While the role is not remunerated, trustees can claim reasonable travel expenses.
The term of appointment is three years, with the option of a second term.
The expected time commitment is ~10 hours per month, including quarterly Board meetings, committee work and external representation.
The role
CaSE is entering an exciting new phase, with plans to further expand its impact, profile and income. With the current Chair reaching the end of their term in November 2026, the Board are seeking to appoint a new trustee to shadow the current Chair and then step into the role.
The Chair leads the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its fiduciary, statutory, strategic, and advocacy responsibilities. They are responsible for ensuring the Board functions effectively in support of CaSE’s mission, they will act as a trusted partner to the Executive Director (ED) and adopt an ambassadorial role for CaSE with policymakers and members.
Key responsibilities for the role include:
Governance & Leadership
- Leading the Board in setting CaSE’s strategic direction, in line with its mission.
- Chairing quarterly Board meetings (alternating virtual and in-person formats), including one all-day Board Away Day, to support informed, inclusive and balanced decision-making.
- Attending the annual Remuneration Committee meeting, and the AGM.
- Support recruitment and orientation of new Board members to ensure a diverse, skilled and high-performing governing body.
Board Effectiveness
- Setting Board meeting agendas in consultation with the ED and Committees.
- Ensure Board discussions are focused, strategic and action-oriented.
- Build consensus and manage differing perspectives to reach robust conclusions.
- Model, and enforce, the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability.
Partnership with the Executive Director
- Line managing the ED with regular meetings (around once per month) to offer constructive guidance, and conducting an annual performance evaluation.

Attendance may be required during the day, evening, overnight or weekend Cheshire (24/7) County Durham (24/7) Cumbria (24/7) Derbyshire (24/7) Greater Manchester (9am – Midnight) Lancashire (24/7) West Mercia (24/7) See Job Advert Criminal Justice Team AA Coordinator N/A 1 PURPOSE OF THE JOB 1.1 To support young people and vulnerable adults who have been detained by the police at one of the named police custody suites above, ensuring we are acting in the best interests of the detainee. 2 PRINCIPAL DUTIES 2.1 To manage your availability to work by populating an on-line rota 2.2 2.3 2.4 To answer the telephone when you are showing on the rota as available in order to receive a referral To contact the relevant custody suite by telephone following referral acceptance to agree arrival time To arrive at a specified police station to support the detainee within 30 minutes of receiving your referral or at the arranged time 2.5 To check the detainee’s welfare and custody records 2.6 To ensure a Solicitor is considered when acting in the best interests of the detainee 2.7 2.8 To help the detainee understand the police process and the reason why they have been detained. To attend the police interview and to intercede if it is not carried fairly and properly in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. Date revised September 2024 2.9 To facilitate communication between the detainee and the police and other professional agencies in Custody 2.10 To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times 2.11 To provide a non-judgmental approach and follow anti-discriminatory practices at all times 2.12 To maintain accurate written records highlighting any issues about the detainee and ensure the information is translated into an Outcome Form on our on-line digital platform within 1 day of completing the referral 2.13 To ensure all written and electronic records are secure and protected to ensure confidentiality is not breached. 2.14 Follow the Health and Safety requirements within the Custody setting, and the Health and Safety requirements of the young person on immediate release 2.15 To identify any of the detainee’s risks, needs or vulnerabilities and raise any concerns with the relevant Custody, Police Protection Unit, Youth Offending Teams or Emergency Duty Teams as required 2.16 Participate and provide training (shadowing opportunities) to new incoming appropriate adults to complete their training obligations. Shadowing opportunities need to be suitable and not serious allegations 3 ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (standard for all posts) 3.1 Represent CANW at meetings, conferences and exhibitions as required. 3.2 3.3 Provide a non-discriminatory service in line with best practice and legislative guidance and treat all who access CANW services fairly and equally.
