Located in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote, the services offer out-of-hours mental health help, support and signposting in a relaxed and comfortable community environment. The services will be open on Friday evenings, Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons, all year round.
We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and resilient mental health support workers to join our friendly supportive team and to help deliver this vital service to local people. This will include providing support to people who may be experiencing, or may otherwise experience, a mental health crisis. This includes offering a listening ear along with structured support to develop a wellbeing plan and signposting advice.
The Role

Hours: Part time: Average 20 hours per week including Crisis Support shifts worked on site as required
Salary: £14,193.35 a year pro rata of £26,257.70 FTE

Job Purpose: The Senior Support Worker role is a key member of the team both ensuring delivery of the Buxton Crisis Support Drop-In service on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and also leading and working alongside the Crisis Support Drop-In Service Team, Support Workers, Peer Support Volunteers and other members of the team for your site and across all services.
Senior Support Workers are responsible for providing leadership of the team on-site, liaising with their peers across the other services, reporting to the Services Lead as their line manager, as well as providing one-to-one and group support to attendees in an empathetic, non-judgemental, person-centred manner in the Support Worker role, as and when required as a part of the role.
Please note, these roles will be based at Swadlincote, Ripley and Buxton, however CSDI Senior Support Workers are employed on a “flexible by location” basis, so the ability to travel to and from other sites is essential for this role.
Working Pattern: Worked over the entire week on a flexible basis, while also being available to work Friday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons, as and when the service requires it. Flexible working is required in this role according to the service needs and the need to cover any gaps in the rota that may arise from time to time. Service runs year-round so the rota includes public holiday working.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Following training, Senior Support Workers will be responsible for delivering the Crisis Support Drop-In service for people who arrive in emotional distress, using active listening without judgement, and assessing, monitoring and supporting individuals on a one-to-one basis and via appropriate group work/support.
The Senior Support Worker will be responsible for arranging shifts and designating the ‘Shift Leader’ for that day’s/evening’s shift team. When the Senior Support is on shift, they will assume the lead role at all times. In addition to normal shift responsibilities, this will include, for example, allocating responsibilities to the team over the course of the shift, liaising with on-call teams as necessary, ensuring admin is completed, and leading a team wellbeing check-in at the end of each working shift.

Hours: 30 hours per week (0.8 FTE) working hours between 0800 – 1800, usually Monday to Friday weekly – Days and Hours to be agreed with line manager

Location: The office base for the role will be our Head Office at Derby West Business Centre, Ashbourne Road, Mackworth, Derby, however the role will also involve delivering support in community venues across Derby and Derbyshire as well as virtually via Microsoft Teams and or phone.
As the role will be required to support people at venues potentially across Derbyshire and so there will be a requirement to travel to specific venues on a regular basis, therefore a full driving license and access to own transport is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner to join Derbyshire Mind to deliver Mind’s guided Supported Self Help Service as we seek to provide a sustainable and secure service at a time when the service has never been more needed.
Mind’s Supported Self Help Service is designed to meet the needs of individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems. The role will involve working from various community venues across Derby and Derbyshire, delivering the Supported Self Help Service, working proactively with individuals to support them through the Supported Self Help approach.
The successful candidate will have a Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent, and experience of providing mental health/wellbeing services to individuals. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and an enthusiastic, committed approach, alongside personal resilience.
Job Purpose
Supported Self Help is a ‘guided self-help’ programme developed by Mind, designed to meet the needs of people who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems. The role will involve working from various community venues within Derbyshire, delivering the Supported Self Help programme, working proactively with individuals to support them via a facilitated self-help approach.
Supported Self-Help is an early intervention service co-produced between national Mind and local Minds and informed by lived experience. This programme will be delivered across Derbyshire, solely by Derbyshire Mind and is funded by a National Lottery Grant, subject to achieving stated outcomes, for the next three years.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To be responsible for a caseload of Supported Self Help clients.
- To work with people to overcome early signs of mental health distress such as anxiety, depression, stress, and bereavement.
- To follow a set programme, providing support via a facilitated self-help model, including signposting individuals to further support where required.
- To delivery an effective service to meet set targets.
- To establish positive client engagement and input, as well as being involved in promoting general aspects of wellbeing.
- To support with trialling different approaches to service delivery, in a variety of locations, whilst ensuring the quality of the service is not compromised.
- To build and maintain positive relationships with key partners, including referrers, community venues, local support services, other VCSE organisations, and local communities.
- To keep abreast of treatments, therapies, policy, legislation, and local services relating to the Supported Self Help service and mental wellbeing.
- To ensure that the Supported Self Help service is delivered in line with operational policies and procedures, including in relation to safeguarding, equal opportunities and health and safety.
- To capture and record all required data on individuals being supported, in an accurate, timely manner. Ensuring all referrals go through the digital platform and to manage the Charity Log processes efficiently to draw down referrals.
- To ensure service delivery meets organisational values and standards and is compliant with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR).
- To attend programme workshops and meetings, contributing to the learning and development of the programme.
- To carry out any other tasks as reasonably requested within the Supported Self Help Service, by their line manager, the Services Lead and/or any other senior manager of Derbyshire Mind.
Personal Development
- To undergo any training relevant to the role either internally or externally, most importantly the supported self-help training provided by national Mind.
- To actively participate in regular supervision sessions and team meetings.
- To participate in Personal Development plans and to undertake training and development as identified within these discussions.

Support Workers will also share the role of Shift Leader each week.
Please note, these roles are to provide cover at Swadlincote, Ripley and Buxton. CSDI Bank Support Workers are engaged on a “flexible location” basis, so the ability to travel to and from sites is required for this role.

Derbyshire Mind’s Crisis Support Drop-In Service is delivered from our Services based in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote and provide support for adults who are experiencing or nearing a mental health crisis in a safe and welcoming non-clinical environment.
We are looking for local people who feel passionate about helping people in need to help us deliver these essential Mental Health Support Services. If that sounds like you then we would really love to hear from you.
The Role
Role: Volunteer – Crisis Support Drop-In Service – Site Specific
Hours – We ask our Volunteers if they can commit to regular hours or shifts. This helps in planning and staffing our services. However, if you have some time please talk to our Senior Support Worker about the amount of time you have.
Reimbursement – Expenses paid in line with our volunteer policy. Including reasonable travel expenses (up to maximum £15 per day) and meal expenses when working a shift of 6 hours (up to maximum £4.50)
Location – Sites in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote

Derbyshire Mind’s Crisis Support Drop-In services are friendly & supportive non-clinical crisis services for adults who self-define as needing immediate help with their mental health or emotional wellbeing. Located in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote, the services offer out-of-hours mental health help, support and signposting in a relaxed and comfortable community environment.
Purpose of the Volunteering Role:
The purpose of this volunteer role is to support and facilitate the smooth running of Derbyshire Mind’s Crisis Support Drop-In Service by presenting a warm and friendly and non-judgemental presence, welcoming and supporting attendees, assisting the Support Workers, and offering support to help attendees engage with various calming activities.

Volunteer Shifts Available:
As agreed with each Volunteer. It would be really helpful if our Volunteers could arrive prior to the start and stay after the end of the Service shift for setting up, tidying away, and wellbeing check-ins.
The Service shifts are:
- Fridaynights: 5.30-11.30pm(6 hours)
- Saturdaynights: 5.30-11.30pm(6 hours)
- Sundayafternoons: 2.00-6.00pm(4 hours)
Volunteers invited to attend team wide meetings, and also one-to-one meetings with their supervisor, once every 6 weeks.
We are looking for volunteers that can provide regular support at their chosen site/service.
Training:
All volunteers will receive comprehensive training before they start supporting the service. This will include teaching you skills that will help you support someone experiencing emotional distress.
Service Open Hours and transport
The Service operates at night times and weekends when public transport has either stopped running or is less reliable, and we want for you to get home safely and so we strongly advise that Volunteers have transport arrangements that ensure you can both get to and get home from our services at times that public transport is unlikely to support.
