Trustee (Director)
Job Description
Theatr Clwyd is a vital cultural institution, not only for local audiences but also for Wales and more broadly across the UK.
2025 has been an extraordinary year for the organisation, marked by the opening of the newly developed building to the public following a £50m capital project. This means the next two years are crucial in realising the opportunities presented by such a significant investment – maximising our new revenue-generating spaces, developing a robust and resilient financial model, while continuing to enhance our world-class theatre-making delivery, our dedicated community programmes, and our strong partnerships in arts and health settings.
In addition to the newly opened building in Flintshire, Theatr Clwyd Trust is also responsible for managing and operating William Aston Hall in Wrexham. With the venue owned by Wrexham University, both partners are eager to invest in the facility in the coming years as Wrexham progresses in its cultural development, aligned with the recently announced bid to become the UK City of Culture, 2029.
Theatr Clwyd Trust also has a sister charity, Theatr Clwyd Music Trust, and we are proud to deliver music education to 78 schools and over 3000 young people every week.
With long-term funding partnerships in place with Flintshire County Council and as the third-largest client of Arts Council of Wales (and the biggest outside of Cardiff), we have an annual turnover of around £13m and core company members of over 200 people. We find ourselves in the perfect position to shape a resilient and ambitious future and are now seeking a new trustee to join the Board, with a specific requirement for expertise as a financial director for a charitable or third-sector organisation.
We hope this opportunity excites you as much as it does us, as it truly is a moment for us to make a positive impact on many people, from current and future generations. We look forward to hearing from you.
Helen Watson (Chair), Liam Evans-Ford (Executive Director), and Kate Wasserberg (Artistic Director)
Terms of Service
Initial 3-year term; board members can be re-appointed up to maximum 3 terms.
Time commitment:
Four Board meetings per year; evenings on weekdays.
Some committee work between meetings.
A commitment to understand Theatr Clwyd activities by attending events is expected
