As a Lead Senior Support Worker, you’ll be pivotal in supporting individuals with daily living, safeguarding their wellbeing, and helping them achieve their aspirations. You’ll also take on senior responsibilities, including leading teams, supervising staff, and ensuring quality support services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored, person-centred support to individuals based on their unique needs and goals.
- Support daily activities like budgeting, cooking, personal care (if required), and community engagement.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with family, friends, and other professionals.
- Lead handovers, supervise staff, and assist with scheduling and rota management.
- Model best practices and help induct and mentor team members.
- Safeguard vulnerable adults, report concerns, and follow safeguarding procedures.
- Maintain accurate records, including financial documentation and support plans.
What skills you will bring:
- Experience in social care or supporting individuals.
- Supervisory experience and the ability to motivate a team.
- NVQ Level 3 in Care (or willingness to achieve it).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic IT and numerical skills.

Our Cornwall Supported Employment service require an enthusiastic and committed individual to support the education of learners on our Pathway to Employment/Supported Internship programme. This programme is for young people 16 – 24 living in Cornwall and who have and Education Healthcare Plan (EHCP).
Delivery of the programme can be across Cornwall through a mix of education and work-related activity both 1:1 and group work.
This post will primarily be based at our Tolvaddon location and also in the community supporting learners on work placements. Mileage is paid at 0.45p per mile between base and supported work placement.
Full driving licence, own car and willingness to travel across Cornwall is essential.
Making it Happen – Your role
The rewarding role of the Job Coach is to support young people in realising their aspirations to participate in work related activities, and facilitate individuals’ progression into paid work, through volunteering, education and training, work experience and other routes.
The Job Coach will work flexibly across all key stages, and work with individuals on 1:1 basis or very small groups under the direction of the Employability Tutor.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with confidence and initiative who is comfortable working on a one-to-one basis and sometimes without direct supervision.
Working with challenging young people and helping them develop will be key so you will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
You will follow a bespoke timetable and will build positive relationships with the young person to promote interaction and a constructive learning environment.

Your role
Previous experience in a Support Worker type role is not essential but an awareness of learning disabilities and challenging behaviour is. What is most important is that you are an empathetic, resilient and robust individual with a genuine passion for supporting others. Having the ability to think on your feet is an important skill for this role as it means that you will be able to adapt to the needs of the people you are supporting.
As part of your role, you will be using a digital app called Nourish, where all care and support plans of the people we support are held. Experience of using a digital or mobile app would be desirable however full training will be given
Please note that this role will involve elements of evening, weekend and bank holiday work as well as sleep in shifts so flexibility is essential.
The needs of this service do require the successful applicant to hold a full manual UK driving licence. The successful applicant will also be subject to an enhanced DBS check the cost of which to be met by United Response.

About the Service
At Derwenthorpe you will be supporting four young people aged from 26-31 with learning and physical disabilities, mental health conditions, down syndrome and autism. They have 24/7 hours in supported spreading across two connected houses with two floors and a beautiful garden, with a mixture of shared, 1:1 and 2:1 support. Shifts will be varied and include weekends, sleeps and waking nights.
The people we support at Derwenthorpe also enjoy taking part in lots of activities such as gardening and baking. They have a lot of indoor games at the house and they love making competitions and having board games nights. They also love doing indoor parties and barbecues in the garden at summer time. They attend activities such as Athletics, bowling, discos, going to the cinema, going to the theatre and they love a good musical and comedy to watch.

Who We Are
United Response is a registered charity, founded in 1973. Our mission is to ensure that individuals with learning disabilities, mental, or physical support needs have the opportunity to live life to the fullest. We support around 2000 people across more than 300 locations in England and Wales, with over 3,600 staff members.
ROC College, a part of United Response, is a specialist college providing person-centred, community-based teaching and learning within Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset. We work with young people aged 16-25 with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
What We’re Looking For
We’re keen to hear from applicants with experience working with individuals with SEND. You should be patient, supportive, enthusiastic, and creative, able to provide accessible education content tailored to our students. Flexibility to travel across the community with students is required. This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to further develop their skills and experience in teaching and learning.
The ideal applicant will have the necessary skills to support the development of independence and assist individuals in accessing work experience placements. Experience supporting with Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) practice and promoting lifelong learning is essential. A strong understanding of complex behavioural needs is highly advantageous.
We are looking for someone with experience working with individuals who have complex learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge. The ability to work as part of a small team is also crucial. Additionally, the ideal candidate will either have experience with Proloquo2, Makaton, or be willing to participate in training for these communication methods.
What to Expect
As part of the ROC College team, you will support students aged 16-25 with EHCPs to develop life skills in various community settings such as learning hubs, libraries, workplaces, and leisure facilities. You will assess student progress and outcomes, and help provide accredited learning based on a personalised curriculum.
