Wildlife Hospital Manager (Registered Veterinary Nurse)

About the Role

PACT Animal Sanctuary is developing and expanding its wildlife hospital services, and we are
looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to lead this exciting next phase.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape and develop a growing wildlife hospital while also
remaining hands-on in clinical care and rehabilitation. You will play a key role in building standards,
supporting audits and compliance, developing protocols, and leading a dedicated wildlife care
team.

You will work closely with our on-site veterinary unit to ensure clinical best practice, correct
medication use, and robust treatment protocols, while holding overall responsibility for the
leadership and day-to-day operation of the wildlife hospital.

If you are passionate about wildlife, thrive in a varied role, and want to help build and develop our
hospital, we would love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will:

• Lead the daily operation of the wildlife hospital and rehabilitation areas

• Provide hands-on clinical nursing care to wildlife patients

• Oversee rehabilitation and release planning for wildlife casualties

• Work collaboratively with our on-site veterinary unit and animal welfare manager to ensure

correct protocols, medications, and treatment plans are followed

• Help develop and embed clinical standards, policies, and procedures as the service grows

• Support audit readiness, record keeping standards, and compliance processes

• Lead, support, and develop wildlife volunteers, students, and team members

• Maintain high standards of hygiene, infection control, and biosecurity

• Manage stock, equipment, and facility standards

• Contribute to data collection, reporting, and service development

Why This Role is Different

This is not just a management role. You will help:

• Shape a developing wildlife hospital service

•

Influence protocols and working practices

• Support preparation for audits and external standards

• Build and develop a growing wildlife care team

• Be part of expanding wildlife care provision at PACT

What We’re Looking For

Essential

✔ RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse
✔ Strong wildlife rehabilitation experience
✔ Confidence leading and managing a team (including volunteers)
✔ Excellent organisation and communication skills
✔ Emotional resilience and ability to manage challenging welfare situations
✔ Experience working with clinical protocols, audits, and compliance standards
✔ Knowledge of UK wildlife, legislation and rehab protocols

Working Environment

This is a physically and emotionally demanding but highly rewarding role. You will:

• Work with wildlife patients requiring care 365 days per year

• Work on a shift basis covering two rotas – a winter rota (spanning October to April), and then
a summer rota (spanning April to October to facilitate baby season). Winter rota shifts are
approx. 7.45am to 5pm, and the summer rota reflects a mix of early shifts 7.45am to 5pm,
and a mix of late shifts 12.45pm to 10pm (based on a 4-day working week). Both rotas work
on a fixed 2 week rolling rota covering alternate weekends with fixed days off, to maximise
work-life balance.

• Work alternate weekends and some bank holidays

• Carry out physically active work including lifting, bending, and moving between enclosures

• Occasionally work independently
