World Physiotherapy quality assurance services

As part of its education quality assurance activities, World Physiotherapy is expanding its pool of volunteer peer reviewers to support its accreditation of physiotherapist entry level education programmes

We are seeking dedicated and experienced professionals who are passionate about education and committed to advancing the quality of physiotherapist entry level education worldwide. World Physiotherapy accreditation service is based on international quality requirements and peer review processes, ensuring that physiotherapists entry level education programmes prepare competent graduates to practice and improve patient outcomes.

Role of volunteer reviewers

Reviewers play a key role in ensuring the quality, fairness, and credibility of all services.

Responsibilities:

evaluate entry-level physiotherapy education programmes against World Physiotherapy standards

• review detailed documentation (institutional, curriculum, practice education)

participate in external reviews, including virtual or in-person site visits

• assess governance and institutional support, academic staff qualifications, and capacity. Evaluate curriculum design and delivery, practice education, and placements. Review resources and facilities, programme outcomes, and graduate competencies

• contribute to evidence-based accreditation recommendations and decisions

• provide clear, constructive feedback, including for unsuccessful applications

participate in training and calibration activities

• maintain confidentiality and manage conflicts of interest

Peer reviewer profile

Essential:

registered physiotherapist with minimum 5 years of professional experience in physiotherapist entry level education

• member in good standing of a World Physiotherapy member organisation (MO)

experience in teaching, curriculum design, programme delivery, practice education, academic leadership, or programme management

• strong understanding of practice education systems and professional competence frameworks

familiarity with educational theories, education, and qualification frameworks, national and international entry level education standards, and accreditation processes

• prior involvement in accreditation, evaluation, or external review processes (highly desirable)

sound understanding of World Physiotherapy

Skills and attributes:

strong analytical and critical appraisal skills

ability to evaluate educational content for quality and relevance

excellent written communication skills

• ability to provide clear, concise, and constructive feedback

sensitivity to diversity across global education and practice contexts

strong time management and ability to meet deadlines

commitment to confidentiality and conflict of interest policies

Language:

proficiency in English (essential)

proficiency in additional languages (desirable)

Timeline and commitment:

• typical accreditation cycle: 6–8 months per initial accreditation review process

• total involvement to accompany the annual reporting process: 5 years

participation includes document review phases, review meetings, site visits, report writing, and review of the annual reports

expected workload: up to two accreditation reviews within a five-year period (depending on availability), each accreditation review requires a commitment of up to 120 hours including desk review, meetings, and site visits, reporting within the typical accreditation cycle, and an additional five hours annually for review of the subsequent annual reports
