Bloxham School is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Visiting Music Teacher for the Oboe to join our vibrant and ambitious Music Department on a fixed-term basis until the end of the academic year. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate oboe specialist to inspire young musicians and contribute to a thriving musical community.

  About the role:

 As a Visiting Music Teacher – Oboe, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality one-to-one oboe lessons for pupils of all ages and abilities, from beginner to advanced.
  • Prepare students for graded examinations, concerts, recitals and school performances.
  • Work closely with the Director of Music and colleagues to promote high standards of musicianship across the department.
  • Encourage pupils’ participation in ensembles, chamber groups and wider musical opportunities.
  • Provide feedback and progress reports in line with school expectations.
  • Lead or support workshops, masterclasses or ensemble coaching where appropriate.

About the Department:

The Music Department at Bloxham School is a lively and inclusive community offering over 200 lessons each week, delivered by an expert team of 20 visiting specialists. The department runs a rich programme of concerts and events throughout the year, including:

  • The House Music Competition
  • Bloxham Young Musician of the Year
  • Jazz Night in collaboration with leading professional musicians
  • Carols by Candlelight, involving more than 100 student performers
  • A flagship Gala Concert featuring our larger ensembles
  • Our ensembles frequently perform major repertoire and collaborate with external artists, offering a stimulating musical environment for both pupils and staff.

  About You:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring oboe teacher with a strong commitment to developing young musicians.

Essential:

  • A degree in Music or a related subject.
  • Experience teaching oboe to a wide range of ages and abilities.
  • Proven success in preparing students for graded exams and performances
  • Proven success in coaching ensembles and choirs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Music.
  • Experience leading or coaching chamber groups or string ensembles.
