Are you being called to be the next Vicar of Slade Green?

It is an exciting time in the life of the Diocese of Rochester as we reflect on how we, as a Diocese, might Change and Serve and Grow so that more people come to know the love of Christ. How we do that in the parish of St Augustine's, Slade Green is by support from our SMIIB Missional Development Places workstream.

Our vision is to continue to be a welcoming and outward-looking church, deepening our faith in Christ and strengthening our links with schools, families and the local community, and developing new opportunities for mission and outreach.

The church and parish: St Augustine's, while being one of the most economically deprived parishes in our Diocese, is a growing church, with a diverse and welcoming congregation (USA 100+ adults & children) made up of people of all ages and ethnicities. Parish population is around 9,600, mainly residential and with a higher than average proportion of social housing and single-parent families.  There are excellent transport links with buses and via the local railway station which is just 5 minutes walk away.

Worship is central Eucharistic, with a robed choir and young Acolytes and Servers.  Junior Church is regularly attended by around 20 children.  Morning and Evening Prayer services take place each day led by members of the PCC.  This was started during the Covid lockdown and has continued. 

Children's ministry is very important to us, and there is SMIIB funding in place to recruit a part-time Children, Youth & Families Worker to build on the work of the previous CYP Worker, particularly in the three local schools.

Community events include the weekly Dementia Cafe, Summer and Christmas Fairs, Parish BBQ, etc, and our church hall is very well used by the local community for various groups throughout the week.

The Vicarage is a spacious, detached family home next to the church which has been recently refurbished.

The ideal candidate will be someone who:

• Embraces diversity and makes everyone feel truly welcome, regardless of their background or circumstance.
• Is a collaborative leader with a heart for mission and growth, and experience creating and implementing Mission Plans.
• Can nurture discipleship and identify gifts in others.
• Will prioritise our work with children, young people and families, including the recruitment and line management of our new CYPF Worker, and support for teenagers and young adults.
• Will demonstrate and nurture spiritual growth through worship, prayer, teaching and pastoral care.

You will be supported by an active and enthusiastic PCC, a supportive and multicultural congregation, excellent relationships with local schools, and a parish with a strong commitment for community outreach and opportunities for future mission.
