About Safety Net
Safety Net is the leading provider of specialist recovery services for people affected by rape, exploitation, domestic abuse and sexual abuse across Cumbria. Our vision is for communities where people can recover and thrive after abuse. We provide a safe, supportive space for people who are no longer in an abusive situation and are ready to begin recovery.
Our services
Safety and stabilisation: Helping survivors feel secure and supported as they navigate their recovery journey.
Counselling and therapy: Tailored individual support for adults and children to process and heal from trauma.
Practical assistance: Guidance with benefits, legal aid, and housing to address immediate needs.
Prevention and education: Raising awareness and providing training to empower communities and prevent harm.
Who are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in people with experience in:
Finance / accountancy
Governance / legal
Fundraising / income generation
HR / people management
Therapeutic / safeguarding practice
Communications / marketing
Digital / strategy
Lived experience relevant to our mission
Your responsibilities will include:
Helping to define and oversee the charity’s strategy and vision.
Ensuring the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Overseeing the financial management of the charity.
Monitoring the charity’s effectiveness in delivering high-quality, trauma-informed services.
Upholding and safeguarding Safety Net’s values and reputation.
Make a difference
As a trustee, you will play a crucial role in the governance and strategic direction of Safety Net. Your contributions will shape the charity’s direction and ensure our work continues to be impactful, ethical, and sustainable.

Time commitment
Trustees are expected to attend 4 board meetings per year, as well as participate in sub-committees and occasional events. The estimated time commitment is 8 hours per month.
