Transition Tutor

We are outstanding, you can be too.

We are seeking organised, positive and enthusiastic Transition Tutors to join our Information, Advice and Guidance team here at Portland College. We are looking for people who are passionate about supporting and empowering learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We are recruiting for two posts: one full time and permanent, and one full time and fixed term (length TBC).

The successful candidates will support and facilitate learners throughout their whole learning journey here at the college, including transition into the college; initial assessments and reviews; facilitating EHCP reviews, monitoring progress and assisting learners when they leave to progress towards the next steps in their journey. We are looking for someone who has a positive approach and can work well on their own initiative as well as within a small and thriving team.

A day in the role could involve facilitating an initial assessment; meeting with the family members of a learner interested in joining the college; or engaging with learners to provide general support and guidance. This is a diverse role which includes a variety of day-to-day responsibilities; therefore, we are looking for someone who can be flexible and adaptable within a fast-paced environment.

To be successful in this role, strong organisational and literacy skills are a must as you will play a leading role in Person Centred Reviews (facilitating EHCP reviews) and you will be involved in the funding process. You should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as you will be required to work efficiently within a small team as well as working with other departments across the college. You will also regularly liaise with external agencies such as Local Education Authorities, funding bodies, and parents and carers. Experience and knowledge around adult social care, careers and employability, transition and funding would be desirable.

*Please note that we will not accept any applications submitted after the campaign has been closed. We may close campaigns early if we have a high volume of applications.

As part of our pre-employment checks, we will be required to carry out an enhanced with barred lists DBS check, as this role involves regulated activity.
