Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we believe recovery is possible for everyone. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader to help shape and develop The Stewarts, an innovative residential service providing both Intensive Enablement and Discharge to Assess (D2A) pathways.

As a Team Leader, you will play a key role in leading and developing a team of Recovery Workers, ensuring people receive high-quality, person-centred and recovery-focused support. You will work closely with the Service Manager, healthcare professionals, commissioners and partner agencies to create an environment where people can build confidence, develop practical skills, strengthen resilience and move towards greater independence.

Passionate about people and committed to achieving positive outcomes, you will help individuals progress through clearly defined recovery pathways while supporting your team to deliver safe, effective and outcome-focused services.

About The Service

The Stewarts is a new residential mental health service providing two distinct pathways designed to support people at different stages of their recovery journey.

The service offers Intensive Enablement and Rehabilitation beds, supporting people for up to 18 months within a structured and therapeutic environment. The focus is on developing daily living skills, promoting recovery, building confidence, increasing independence and preparing individuals for successful move-on into longer-term accommodation. From the point of admission, clear recovery goals and move-on planning are established, with alternative accommodation actively pursued well in advance of discharge.

Alongside this, The Stewarts provides Discharge to Assess (D2A) beds, delivering short-term support of up to six weeks for people transitioning from acute mental health wards or requiring a short-term step-up from community services. Through regular multidisciplinary reviews and structured assessment processes, individuals are supported to identify and move into the most appropriate longer-term pathway.

The service will support adults aged 18 and over experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties, including people who may present with co-existing substance use, complex physical health needs, mild learning disabilities or behaviours that challenge services. The Stewarts has been specifically designed to support individuals with higher levels of complexity while maintaining a strong recovery and strengths-based focus.

Main Responsibilities

As a Team Leader, you will:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and support to a team of Recovery Workers, promoting a positive and high-performing culture.
  • Support the development and ongoing delivery of The Stewarts alongside the Service Manager, ensuring the service achieves contractual, quality and recovery-focused outcomes.
  • Oversee referrals, admissions, transitions and discharge planning across both the Intensive Enablement and D2A pathways.
  • Ensure recovery planning, risk management, safeguarding and support interventions are delivered to a consistently high standard.
  • Lead on person-centred, strengths-based approaches that promote independence, choice, positive risk-taking and social inclusion.
  • Monitor progression against individual recovery goals, ensuring move-on planning begins from admission and remains a focus throughout a person's stay.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals, housing partners, commissioners, families, carers and community services to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Support staff development through regular supervision, appraisal, coaching and performance management.
  • Contribute to service audits, quality assurance processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping, reporting and compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Promote a trauma-informed and psychologically informed environment that supports recovery and wellbeing.
  • Be willing to work on shift as part of your working week and provide visible leadership across the service.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an experienced leader who is passionate about supporting people with complex mental health needs to achieve meaningful recovery and independence.

You will have:

  • Experience of leading, supervising or coordinating a team within a mental health, social care, housing support or related setting.
  • A strong understanding of recovery-focused and person-centred approaches within mental health services.
  • Experience of supporting individuals with severe and enduring mental health needs, including people with co-occurring substance use and other complex needs.
  • Knowledge of risk management, safeguarding, positive risk-taking and trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience of developing support plans, reviewing outcomes and coordinating multidisciplinary interventions.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of delivering supervision, coaching and performance management to staff.
  • An understanding of discharge planning, rehabilitation pathways, supported housing and community-based support options.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and social care legislation, best practice guidance and quality standards.

An effective team player, you will demonstrate resilience, professionalism, flexibility and a commitment to delivering outstanding support. Most importantly, you will share our values and be dedicated to helping people build fulfilling, meaningful and independent lives.
