Role PurposeAs a teacher of Science you will be working with groups from years 7 to13 but should have the ability to teachboth Biology and Chemistry up to KS4. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach all sciences atKS3. This will include monitoring students’ progress, the provision of regular feedback, and the refining ofapproaches in response to student progression where appropriate. How We WorkScience is taught in purpose-built labs which have been recently refurbished, and the Science departmentenjoys a healthy budget allowing staff to meet the needs of their students and provide the inspiring lessonsthat students here enjoy. There is excellent uptake of science at KS5 where we offer all Science A levels, MedicalScience and Marine Science, which could be taught by the right candidate. Many of our students go on topursue degrees in Medicine, Engineering and straight Science at top Universities each year. Students in Science also enjoy a raft of extracurricular clubs at Redmaids’ High School, from Science andDissection Club to Industrial Cadets. All Science staff help with the running of these clubs and enjoy seeing thepassion that our students have for Science both in and out of the classroom. There will also be the opportunityto get involved with Science trips from university and industry visits to international visits such as CERN. The Department runs many extra-curricular activities during our long lunch break, and you would be expectedto support some of these events.All teaching members of staff are also expected to be form tutors, working closely with students in your tutorgroup to monitor their pastoral car and wellbeing. Forming positive relationships with all students is a crucialpart of our role, and this is just as important in the classroom as it is in the Form Room.Key ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Head of Science DepartmentPlanning and delivery of lessons across the age ranges. Providing regular feedback to students, in-line with the school and department marking and feedbackpolicies .Inputting into schemes of work or providing subject specific resources. Participating in department specific trips or enrichments opportunities. Participating in the school extra-curricular programme.Provision of regular feedback about student progress or pastoral matters to parents, through attendanceat Parents’ Evenings, completion of reports, and picking up individual matters where appropriate. Person SpecificationThe successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and competencies:An excellent Teacher of Science with outstanding subject knowledge. Able to teach both Chemistry and Biology to KS4.Well-organised and with a keen eye for detail. Able to set and work to deadlines. Able to work in collaboration with both teaching and support staff, individually and as part of a team, andto build strong relationships. A warm, effective communicator with excellent communications skills. Flexible, self-motivated and enthusiastic. Passionate about education and attentive to the on-going developments and training relating toChemistry and Biology. IT literate – you will need to understand IT systems including professional and accurate use of email andjob specific websites.
