About the Schools

The Newcastle School

Newcastle School for Boys is an independent day school located in the heart of Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne. From September 2026, we begin a new and exciting chapter, becoming The Newcastle School and welcoming girls into our community for the first time; building on the legacy of Newcastle School for Boys. Our school offers a unique through-school education from Early Years to Sixth Form, ensuring a seamless academic journey for every pupil, every step of the way.

From September 2026, we will welcome girls into the Junior School and Sixth Form with the rest of the Senior School to follow in September 2027.

What sets The Newcastle School apart is our size and philosophy. We are intentionally small, with small class sizes, allowing every child to be known and understood as a unique learner. Our supportive environment and strong pastoral framework underpin exceptional academic and personal development. We provide the range of opportunities you would expect from a much larger school, all within a nurturing, inclusive setting.

Our pupils benefit from tailored learning, expert teaching, and a wealth of co-curricular experience, from sport and performing arts to STEM clubs and international travel. Whether a pupil dreams of medicine, sport, entrepreneurship, or creative pursuits, The Newcastle School equips them with the tools, values, and vision to succeed.

Westfield School, Part of the RGS Newcastle Group of Schools

Founded as a girls’ school in 1960, Westfield places great emphasis on combining academic excellence with educating the whole person. The school gives real value to every child so that they will enjoy a feeling of security, a sense of belonging and will develop a belief of their own worth, whatever their individual strengths and qualities.

Westfield recently became a founder member of the RGS Newcastle Group of Schools offering wider opportunities for pupils and staff.

Westfield is totally committed to producing happy, self-confident, well-balanced young individuals, international in their outlook and ready to face a world full of opportunity and adventure. Westfield has been a member of Round Square for over 30 years and opportunities for involvement in international projects abound.

At Westfield, we believe the early years of education should be as joyful as they are purposeful. From September 2025, our Junior House has welcomed both boys and girls, extending our warm, ambitious and inclusive environment to more families while continuing to offer exceptional individual support and teaching.
