Job description

Job Purpose

To design, develop, implement and maintain the University’s corporate Salesforce platform, providing solutions across the administrative, teaching and research functions of the university in accordance with agreed University objectives. To lead the delivery of substantial Salesforce solutions which maximise service quality and efficiency and meet service standards and requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead initial investigations in the early stages of new system development. Gather, analyse and document complex system requirements, working with CRM stakeholders and project teams to ensure that Salesforce-based solutions will meet their needs by supporting business processes effectively and ultimately add value to the University.

2. Design, develop, configure, test, and deploy Salesforce components, including Apex classes, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flows, and APIs, producing detailed design specifications and documentation, and ensuring at all stages that the system delivered will meet user requirements and expectations.

3. Ensure appropriate data architecture, security models, and integrations with university systems, ensuring data integrity and GDPR compliance.

4. Upgrade, maintain, and apply changes to Saleforce solutions, providing full technical documentation where appropriate and ensuring the business impact of changes is assessed and managed.

5. Provide expert advice to users of the system in order for them to utilise the system to its full potential. Respond to support calls from staff and students using the IT Helpdesk System.

6. Provide continued system support to existing systems in order to resolve issues, and ensure that services are consistently available at all times and perform well for the users who rely on these systems in order to carry out their jobs.

7. Plan and manage the work of others when required which may involve a mentoring role, giving direction and instruction to less experienced team members or contractors.

8. Communication with third party suppliers, government bodies, and relevant University offices and committees regarding legislative requirements and University regulations.

9. Stay current with Salesforce releases, features, and best practices, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications  

Essential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist role(s) Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, 10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a management role(s) and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Deep technical knowledge of Salesforce architecture, configuration, and development tools.

A3 A strong understanding of secure software development principles.

A4 Knowledge of Agile development practices: e.g. story point estimation, SCRUM ceremonies.

A5 Salesforce Platform Developer I certification.

Desirable:

B1 Salesforce Platform Developer Platform Developer II certification.

B2 Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator certification.

B3 Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Engagement Administrator certification.

B3 Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Git, VS Code, and DevOps pipelines.

B4 An understanding of GDPR and DPA legislation.

B5 Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements including WCAG standard.

Skills

Essential:

C1 Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to architect substantial technical solutions.

C2 Proficiency in Apex, SOQL, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and Salesforce APIs.

C2 Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into scalable Salesforce configurations.

C3 Ability to lead and mentor other developers, and introduce new development practices and technologies

C4 Effective communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams.

C5 Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:

D1 Integration experience using middleware such as MuleSoft or Dell Boomi.

D2 UI/UX awareness in relation to Salesforce user experience.

D3 Familiarity with Higher Education data models and student lifecycle processes.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Substantial full systems lifecycle experience, including requirements analysis and writing technical specifications.

E2 Experience implementing a Salesforce platform in a large, complex organisation.

E3 A consistent track record of developing complex end-to-end solutions using Saleforce.

E4 Experience of planning workload using own judgement and initiative to estimate and deliver, including assigning tasks to junior staff.

E5 Experience working in cross-functional teams and agile delivery environments.

E6 Experience in integrating Salesforce with third-party platforms.

E7 Experience in developing custom objects, triggers, flows, and Lightning components.

Desirable:

F1 Prior experience in the education sector.

F2 Participation in system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and go-live support.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 8, £50,253 - £58,225 per annum.

This post is full time and open ended.
