We are looking for a versatile and enthusiastic Singing teacher to teach in the Senior School (aged 11-18) and Junior School (aged 7-11). We are looking to cover the following:
- Approximately one day of individual singing teaching in the short term with the capacity to expand to more over the longer term.
Person Specification:
- Ability to teach boys and girls of Junior and Senior age groups.
- Ability to teach pupils of varying levels and abilities from Beginner level to Grade 8 and beyond.
- Ability and experience in preparing pupils for grade exams such as ABRSM.
- Ability to vary the teaching style and approach to suit different pupils.
- Ability to teach in different styles such as classical and music theatre.
- The ability to provide piano accompaniment is a very useful, although not essential, supporting skill.
- Ability to relate well to pupils, staff and parents.
- Ability to encourage, motivate and inspire pupils.
- Willingness to be flexible in dealing with the complex nature of day-to-day life in a busy school.
- Flexibility of working hours.
- Willingness to go the extra mile for pupils.
- It would also be an advantage for applicants to offer ways that they could potentially contribute the wider musical life of the school – e.g. directing choirs, accompanying their pupils in performances and exams. Applicants should specify any additional skills, experience and interests that may be relevant in their application.
The department has a strong tradition of classical singing but also a number of pupils with a keen interest in musical theatre and popular styles. A number of pupils in recent years have successfully obtained Oxbridge choral scholarships, places in regional and national choirs such as Hallé Youth Choir and National Youth Choir and entry to music conservatoires.
