School Chaplain – The Castle School
Taunton Youth for Christ is seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and pioneering individual to establish and develop School Chaplaincy at The Castle School in Taunton. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a heart for young people and a passion for sharing the hope of Jesus within a secondary school setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering the mission of Taunton Youth for Christ within the school community, providing pastoral, spiritual and relational support to students and staff.
The role will involve building positive relationships with students through regular presence around the school, mentoring and pastoral support, leading targeted interventions and group work, supporting faith based activities, and contributing to assemblies, reflective spaces and curriculum opportunities where appropriate.
We are looking for someone who is confident working missionally within a secular environment, able to work collaboratively with school staff, and passionate about seeing young people thrive. The successful applicant will be based primarily at The Castle School and supported by the Taunton Youth for Christ Centre Director and Trustees.
We are looking for someone who has a vibrant Christian faith and a love for Jesus, is passionate about supporting and discipling young people, can build strong, professional and approachable relationships with students and staff and has experience working with young people in schools, church or community settings. The right applicant will be confident leading group work, mentoring and pastoral support, can work in a trauma informed and relational way with young people facing challenges and is able to contribute creatively to assemblies, reflective opportunities and faith exploration. Working well independently and collaboratively and holding relevant qualifications and/or experience. They will hold a full UK driving licence and have access to transport.
There is an occupational requirement that the postholder is a committed Christian, in accordance with Part 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. The successful applicant will be required to provide suitable references. An Enhanced DBS check will be required due to the nature of the role. Safeguarding training will be required prior to working within the school, alongside training provided by The Castle School.
Hours and Contract: 37 hours per week working across 39 weeks per year (term time plus INSET days) Salary: £23,563.54 per annum (full time equivalent term contract), paid in equal monthly instalments across 12 months. Initially offered as a one year fixed term contract, subject to annual review and three month probationary period.
