At Apex Scotland, we know that lasting change happens through trusted relationships, practical support and belief in people's potential.

Our services support people who are currently involved in, or have experience of, the justice system to make positive changes in their lives. We work alongside individuals to build confidence, develop skills, improve wellbeing and create pathways towards education, training, volunteering and employment.

We're looking for motivated and compassionate Practitioners who share our belief that people are more than the challenges they face or the mistakes they may have made.

As a Practitioner, you will provide person-centred, trauma-responsive support to individuals at different stages of their journey. You will help people identify their strengths, overcome barriers and take meaningful steps towards achieving their goals.

You will:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with participants.
  • Manage a caseload and deliver tailored support based on individual needs, circumstances and aspirations.
  • Support people to develop confidence, resilience and practical life skills.
  • Help individuals progress towards learning, volunteering, employability and sustainable employment.
  • Deliver one-to-one support and group-based activities.
  • Work collaboratively with partner organisations and community services.
  • Encourage, challenge and motivate people to achieve outcomes that matter to them.
  • Advocate for people and help challenge the stigma often associated with convictions.

The roles are field-based and require travel throughout the relevant service area. Applicants should therefore be able to travel independently across either Edinburgh or the Highlands, depending on the post applied for.

Do you have experience supporting people to make positive changes in their lives, helping them build confidence, stability, motivation and the foundations needed to move forward?

We welcome applications from people with experience in:

  • Justice or community justice services.
  • Employability and progression support.
  • Skills development, learning or training programmes.
  • Community-based support, including youth work, housing, social care or health services.
  • Roles involving coaching, mentoring, advocacy or supporting vulnerable individuals.

Most importantly, we're looking for people who:

  • Believe everyone has the capacity for growth and change.
  • Can build authentic relationships based on trust, respect and compassion.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Are adaptable, resilient and solution focused.
  • Understand the importance of trauma-responsive practice.
  • Want to make a genuine difference in people's lives.

We recognise that valuable experience comes in many forms. If you have transferable skills or lived experience that helps you understand the challenges people face, we'd love to hear from you.

At Apex Scotland, you'll be part of a supportive and values-driven team committed to creating opportunities and changing lives.

We offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities.
  • A supportive and collaborative culture.
  • Meaningful work with real impact.
  • Full training and support to help you succeed in the role.

Join Our Team

This role is about more than helping people access services or opportunities. It's about helping people believe that a different future is possible.

If you're someone who can see potential where others see barriers, who can build trust, inspire confidence and support people to create a future beyond their past, we'd love to hear from you.

Please submit your CV and covering letter via the application link, clearly stating whether you are applying for the Edinburgh Practitioner position or the Highlands Practitioner position.

We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.
