Rate of Pay: £13.01 PAYEE - £15 SELF-EMPLOYED

Nature of the role

I am looking for a kind, reliable and genuinely empathetic Personal Assistant to provide practical support with personal care, household tasks and day-to-day living.

I have a disability which means my energy, mobility and ability to manage everyday tasks can fluctuate. The right person will understand that some days are easier than others and be comfortable adapting their approach accordingly.

The role is about helping me maintain my independence and quality of life, rather than taking over. I remain in control of my own decisions and routines, with my PA providing the practical assistance I need.

Main duties

  • Providing one-to-one support with everyday activities and routines.
  • Supporting with personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming and personal hygiene when required.
  • Helping with household tasks that I cannot manage because of fatigue, pain, mobility difficulties or brain fog.
  • Light cleaning, tidying, laundry and changing bed linen.
  • Washing up and general kitchen tasks.
  • Shopping and putting shopping away.
  • Preparing varied, nutritious meals and snacks. A decent standard of cooking is important.
  • Helping me maintain a balanced diet and keep an eye on my sugar intake.
  • Helping maintain a safe, comfortable and accessible home environment.
  • Supporting with practical tasks relating to my dog when required. Confidence around dogs is essential.
  • Providing appropriate prompts and practical assistance with established routines.
  • Recognising when I need to rest and supporting appropriate pacing rather than encouraging me to push through fatigue.

Personal qualities

I am looking for someone who is:

  • Kind, patient and genuinely empathetic.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, driven and willing to use their initiative.
  • Positive, with a good sense of humour.
  • Non-judgemental and respectful of privacy, boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Comfortable working with someone who is neurodivergent and has fluctuating health needs.
  • LGBTQ+ friendly and respectful of diversity.
  • Confident and comfortable around dogs.

A good relationship is important to me, so I am looking for someone friendly and approachable who can build a positive working relationship while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

Skills & experience

Essential:

  • Good communication skills, reliability and punctuality.
  • Able to work independently and use initiative.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing needs.
  • Comfortable providing personal care and working in a private home.
  • Genuine empathy and a non-judgemental approach.
  • Good understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Confidence around dogs.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a Personal Assistant, carer or support worker.
  • Experience supporting someone with a fluctuating disability, ME/CFS, neurodiversity or mobility difficulties.
  • Good cooking skills.
  • First aid or other relevant qualifications.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Formal care qualifications are not essential. The right attitude, personality and approach are particularly important to me. Relevant training can be discussed and arranged as appropriate.

Hours of work

14 hours per week, with the exact working pattern to be agreed. Some flexibility may be helpful because my needs can fluctuate.
