About Northbourne Youth Initiative
Northbourne Youth Initiative is a small, vibrant Youth & Community charity based in Elswick, in the West End of Newcastle. We’ve been part of our neighbourhood since 2000, working from an end-terrace house right in the heart of the Northbourne estate — a place that’s full of energy, and community spirit.
We’re proud to deliver neighbourhood youth work on a truly local level, building strong relationships with the children, young people, and families who live around us.
Our aim is simple: to provide activities for achievement — opportunities that help young people aged 8–19 to learn new skills, build confidence, and realise their potential. From cooking clubs and drop-ins to outdoor adventures and community projects, our sessions are designed to be fun, inclusive, and inspiring.
At Northbourne, children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. We listen to their voices, involve them in shaping what happens here, and create spaces where they feel safe, supported, and part of something special.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Part time Play & Youth Worker to join our small, dedicated team.
This is a key role for someone who’s passionate about working with young people and ready to make a difference to the lives of children & young people.
You’ll play an active role in planning and delivering our youth programmes and ensuring sessions are inclusive, creative, and high-quality.
No two days are the same — one day you might be helping a young person overcome a fear on a residential or camping trip, the next running a cooking group, open-access drop-in, or supporting someone to build confidence and try something new.
You’ll bring energy, empathy, and a genuine commitment to making a difference at a neighbourhood level. In return, you’ll be part of a close-knit, supportive team where your ideas are valued and your work has a visible, lasting impact on the community.
Identified sessions and day for delivery which we are looking to cover are listed below, open to discussion and flexible options available. Times below show delivery times and some time either side for planning & evaluation will be expected.
Tuesday & Thursday - Junior provision (8-11 years) 3.30-5.30pm
Friday Inter & Senior drop in (11-17 years) 6-7.30pm
Saturday - Youth cafe & drop in 10-1pm
Please note we have a dealine of 31st October but we will be shortlisting and interviewing as soon as applications hit the inbox, so early applications are encouraged.
