The Music Lead is responsible for creating, developing and delivering an outstanding music offer at The Way Youth Zone. They will provide leadership for all music provision, inspiring young people through performance, production, songwriting and creative expression.
Working alongside colleagues, volunteers and external partners, they will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Music Room, deliver three Music Arts Award cohorts each year, and create progression opportunities that help young people grow in confidence, develop new skills and achieve their potential.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the overall Music Room offer, ensuring it is engaging, inclusive, safe and inspiring for young people.
- Plan and deliver high-quality music activities including production, recording, songwriting, performance and creative projects.
- Deliver and coordinate three Arts Award cohorts each year, supporting young people to achieve accredited outcomes.
- Build positive and meaningful relationships with young people, using music as a tool for engagement, confidence building and personal development.
- Support young people to create, record, perform and showcase original music and creative work.
- Maintain and develop music equipment, instruments, software and studio resources, ensuring they are safe, accessible and used effectively.
- Recruit, support and coordinate music volunteers, visiting artists and industry professionals where appropriate.
- Work with the Senior Youth Worker (Arts & Wellbeing) and wider team to develop partnerships, progression routes and opportunities for young people within the creative industries.
Essential
- Experience delivering music-based activities, workshops or projects for young people or community groups.
- Demonstrable experience in one or more areas of music such as production, recording, songwriting, performance, sound engineering or music technology.
- Experience building positive relationships with young people and engaging diverse groups.
- Understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by young people.
- Experience planning and delivering structured programmes or projects.
- Ability to use music technology and relevant software to support young people's learning and creativity.
- Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities when working with children and young people.
- Commitment to undertaking relevant youth work training and professional development.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Youth work qualification (Level 2, 3 or above).
- Arts Award Adviser qualification or experience delivering Arts Award programmes.
- Experience managing volunteers, sessional staff or visiting practitioners.
- Experience developing partnerships with schools, creative organisations, musicians or industry professionals.

- Delivery and growth of the Music Room offer.
- Successful delivery of three Arts Award cohorts each year.
- Young person engagement, attendance and retention within music provision.
- Maintaining safe, inclusive and high-quality sessions.
- Effective management of music resources, equipment and allocated budgets.
- Contribution to monitoring, evaluation and impact reporting.
- Supporting partnership opportunities and external engagement activities.
- Embedding The Way's values in all aspects of the music programme.
