Music Director
Ryton Chorale
Ryton Chorale are a well-established non-auditioning SATB choir of around 40 singers, formed in 1982 and performing between three and four concerts a year. These are normally performed in March/April, June/July, and November/December. The choir sings traditional choral society repertoire from the Baroque period to modern contemporary. As well as performing our own public concerts we also collaborate with other choirs to perform larger choral pieces, most recently performing Verdi’s Requiem at Southwell Minster in November 2023 with two other choirs and the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra, making a choir of over 120. We also perform some joint concerts with other local musical ensembles and have twinning arrangements with Pfungstadt in Germany and Aurillac in France. We have a very experienced piano/organ accompanist who supports the choir in rehearsals and concerts and provides cover for when the MD cannot attend. Our MD is responsible for planning our concert programme, in conjunction with our accompanist and Music Committee.
We are ideally looking for an experienced MD with dedication, energy and enthusiasm, to continue improving the quality of the choir's sound and enhancing our enjoyment of singing. Our existing MD is relocating and will no longer be able to fulfil the role. The new appointee will start at the beginning of September. The successful MD will be engaged on a self-employed basis as an independent contractor. Remuneration will be competitive, based on experience and will be inclusive of travelling costs.
Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings in Worksop, North Nottinghamshire during school terms between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. including a short social break. Our website www.rytonchorale.org.uk has further information about the choir.
Please send your CV and a covering letter by email to sing@rytonchorale.org.uk as soon as possible but no later than 31st May. Interviews and auditions will take place during June, where you will act as MD for part of one of our Monday evening rehearsals on a date to be agreed.
