We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our Facilities team. Based primarily at our Great Portland Street property, you will maintain mechanical plant, plumbing systems and associated building services across our London properties. The role covers planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, fault finding, statutory maintenance and refurbishment projects. You will also provide technical support to colleagues, liaise with contractors and suppliers, and deputise for the Facilities Manager when required. The role includes participation in a 1-in-3 out-of-hours emergency on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Maintenance

  • Carry out PPM, reactive repairs and refurbishment works.
  • Maintain and repair commercial boiler plant, heating, plumbing and associated mechanical services.
  • Monitor and fault-find on Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing, sanitaryware and drainage faults.
  • Inspect buildings, plant rooms and equipment and identify defects.
  • Support maintenance and refurbishment projects, ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using management software.
  • Comply with Health & Safety, COSHH and statutory requirements.

Emergency Response

  • Respond to mechanical breakdowns and emergency maintenance issues.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out remedial repairs to restore systems.
  • Participate in the 1-in-3 emergency on-call rota.

Technical & Team Support

  • Provide technical advice and support to maintenance colleagues.
  • Assist with PPM and mechanical maintenance activities.
  • Support maintenance programmes and building-services improvement projects.
  • Deputise for the Facilities Manager when required.

Contractors & Customer Service

  • Liaise with contractors, consultants and suppliers to ensure works are completed safely and to the required standard.
  • Maintain positive relationships with residents, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service.
  • Keep the Facilities Manager informed of maintenance issues, plant condition and outstanding works.

About You

You will be an experienced maintenance professional with a strong mechanical and plumbing background, excellent fault-finding skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You will be practical, organised, reliable and customer-focused, with the confidence to provide technical support to colleagues and work with contractors.

Essential

  • Recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing, Building Services or equivalent (City & Guilds, NVQ or similar).
  • Experience maintaining commercial boiler plant and mechanical services.
  • Experience with BMS.
  • Experience of water hygiene and Legionella control.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including COSHH and statutory compliance.
  • Experience in a residential, hospitality, commercial or similar property environment.
  • Experience supervising contractors and/or maintenance projects.
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication, customer service and IT skills.
  • Experience using maintenance management/CAFM software.
  • Ability to lead by example and support colleagues.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to participate in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.
  • An appreciation of cultural sensitivities when working with an international student community.

Desirable

  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • L8 Water Hygiene qualification.
  • IOSH Working Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
