Welcome!
Thanks for thinking about becoming an Outdoor Apprentice at Jamie’s Farm! You don’t
need to have worked before - just be honest, bring your enthusiasm, and get in touch if
you have questions. We're happy to help.
There is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ candidate for a Jamie’s Farm apprenticeship , we
are more interested in your potential to thrive in this role than your past achievements.
You do not have to have achieved certain grades to qualify for this role. Many of the
young people we work with on the farm find school a challenging place to be, and we
are keen to find apprentices who may be able to identify with this!
About Jamie’s Farm
At Jamie’s Farm, we host young people for week-long visits where they can reconnect,
reflect, and take on new challenges. Many of them are having a tough time in school or
at home. As an apprentice, you’ll help them feel welcomed and supported, while also
learning amazing skills yourself.
You can watch a short film about a week on Jamie’s Farm here.
About the role
This role is perfect if you’re keen to work outdoors, with animals, in nature, or with
young people in the future. You’ll help young people who stay at the farm get stuck into
outdoor life, whether it’s walking, feeding animals, gardening, cooking or woodwork.
You’ll also get involved with the daily running of the farm and learn loads of useful skills
along the way.
What you’ll do
• Be part of morning walks, animal feeding, and helping with cooking
• Support group sessions with young visitors and help build their confidence
• Help care for animals with support from our team
•
Join in farm work during lambing or calving time
• Occasionally work weekends (on a rota, as part of your hours)
• Learn and grow as a key part of the team — including with mentoring and
support
Learn on the job
You’ll work towards a Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor qualification. We’ll support
you every step of the way and set aside time each week for your college work. We can
help find you a tutor and learning provider that works for you.
Didn’t get English or Maths GCSEs? No worries — we can support you to gain those
skills too.
The skills you will learn, and the qualification you will work towards, will enable you to
go on to a range of different careers once your time with Jamie’s Farm comes to an end.
