The Bishop is inviting applications for this part-time, interim role within the Deanery of Strood.

This is an oversight role, the aim of which is to scope out and develop a vision for the future of ministry and mission in the benefice. This role is part time with an expectation of offering 2 days per week and 2 Sundays per month to the benefice. It involves working closely with the PCC in building relationships, discipleship, community engagement, developing, supporting and encouraging lay ministries, stewarding church assets, and exploring future pastoral reorganization within the deanery.

Context

The benefice of Allhallows and High Halstow serves a rural population of approximately 3,970, with modest Sunday attendance and a pledged financial contribution. The post involves building disciples, preaching the gospel, engaging with schools and local community bodies. The appointment is part of a broader diocesan effort to re-assess ministry deployment and future pastoral arrangements. The main purpose of the role is to share in “Called Together” - our shared vision and practical plan of work across the Diocese of Rochester to change, serve and grow, as we seek first the Kingdom of God, with compassion, courage and creativity.

The main tasks of an interim minister include enabling the parish to explore its identity and future direction.

Key mission objectives will include:

  • Formulating and delivering an ambitious and achievable plan for growth and community engagement;
  • Addressing the parish’s financial and other resources, including enabling a continued commitment to pay Parish Share;
  • Increasing the capacity of the church to collaborate in mission with other churches in the deanery;
  • Preparing the ground for possible planting/revitalisation opportunities.
