The Vacancy
High Intensity CBT Therapist
Salary: £45,994Location: Remote with some travel to Downton / London for meetings. Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week Contract: Permanent position
We have an incredible opportunity for a High Intensity CBT Therapist to join our Hidden Wounds Service at Help for Heroes and play a vital role in supporting veterans and their families to live well after service.
About the Role
The Hidden Wounds Service is a growing, multi-disciplinary, evidence-based psychological therapy service working with veterans, their families and loved ones experiencing a range of common mental health difficulties. The service has recently been accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists QNVMHS, reflecting our commitment to high-quality, clinically robust care.
As a High Intensity CBT Therapist, you will provide psychological assessment and treatment to beneficiaries with a broad range of presentations, working both independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. You will also offer advice, consultation and guidance to colleagues and other professionals involved in a beneficiary’s care, as clinically appropriate.
You’ll receive regular clinical supervision from an accredited CBT therapist / supervisor, alongside peer support and reflective practice forums. The Hidden Wounds Service is primarily remote and includes PWPs, accredited counsellors and accredited CBT therapists, creating a supportive environment where clinicians can continue to develop their skills and expertise.
In addition to clinical work, you’ll contribute to service development, clinical audit and evaluation, and may support training or consultation activities within the wider organisation. Therapists also co-deliver psychoeducational online courses in partnership with the Help for Heroes Recovery College, with the opportunity to work towards a City & Guilds qualification to support this delivery.
Staff wellbeing is central to our culture. You’ll work a 35-hour week, with flexibility built into the role to support a healthy work–life balance.
About You
You are a BABCP-accredited High Intensity CBT Therapist with post-qualification experience delivering evidence-based psychological interventions in a clinical setting. You are confident assessing and treating a wide range of presentations and enjoy working within a multi-disciplinary environment.
You’ll thrive in this role if you:
-
Are passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred psychological therapy
-
Have strong assessment, formulation and treatment skills across common mental health difficulties
-
Communicate clearly and sensitively with beneficiaries, families and professional colleagues
-
Value supervision, reflective practice and continuous professional development
-
Are organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities effectively
-
Enjoy working collaboratively while also being comfortable working autonomously
Experience of working with military or veteran populations is desirable, but not essential.
About the Team
You’ll join the Hidden Wounds Service, part of Help for Heroes’ wider Recovery Services, delivering specialist psychological support to the Armed Forces community.
The team is values-driven, supportive and committed to evidence-based practice, learning and continuous improvement. Collaboration sits at the heart of how we work — both within the service and across the wider charity — to ensure beneficiaries receive holistic, joined-up support.
In return we can offer you:
-
Belonging to a team who make a difference to our community and value equality, diversity and inclusion.
-
29 days’ annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, regardless of service — plus your birthday off to celebrate!
-
Opportunity to buy and sell up to 5 days annual leave per year.
-
Added to our free health scheme from day one, including discounts on dental, opticians, massages, and more - with the option to upgrade.
-
3 volunteer days per year to support the Help for Heroes community.
-
A generous salary sacrifice pension scheme with an 8% employer contribution and a minimum 3% employee contribution, plus life insurance up to 4× salary as an active member.
-
Discounts on our branded clothing, including a free Help for Heroes hoody when you complete your induction.
Closing date: 1st February 2026
Interview Process: Two-stage interview process, with both stages held via Microsoft Teams. Stage one will be a competency-based interview on 5 or 6 February with the Hidden Wounds Service Manager and Senior CBT Therapist. Stage two will take place on 13 February and will be a more informal, get-to-know-you conversation with the Head of Service, Clinical Lead and a beneficiary/service user, to assess service fit.
Please note: We may close this vacancy early should we receive a high volume of strong applications.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from all backgrounds.
