Helpline Volunteer
About the role
Our helpline is the first point of contact when someone approaches Manchester Mind - via phone, email, website or in-person. We know it can feel really difficult to contact or visit for the first time, especially if struggling with poor mental health, so the team provide a warm welcome and trauma-informed service to ensure people feel safe and heard. They help people to explore options for support if that is what they want and offer signposting and referrals.
As a Helpline Volunteer, you will help the team by volunteering on a rota between reception, the phone-line and via email. You will offer people empathetic support and guidance and ensure they receive a warm welcome to Manchester Mind.
You will:
- Provide emotional and practical support via our phone-line and email, explaining the services we offer, sharing signposts and making referrals.
- Make records on our internal database.
- Update our signposting list for support organisations in Greater Manchester.
- Help us to improve the service that we provide.
- Attend training when required.
All application documents can be downloaded from the box on the right.
This recruitment will remain open until we have filled our current vacancies.
Please note that the application, interview, reference request, DBS process and training can take 2-3 months. We expect successful applicants to be starting in role from December 2026.
