Please contact Mrs Clare Peck at cpeck@twgsboys.kent.sch.uk
We are excited to present a rare and outstanding opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking and energetic Head of PE to lead our thriving Physical Education department at TWGSB. This is an exceptional chance for an ambitious teacher to shape the future of sport and physical development within a school that truly values PE as a cornerstone of its culture and identity. This is a role for a leader who wants to make a genuine impact and leave a legacy.
At TWGSB, our Physical Education ethos is simple yet powerful: 'Sports for All'.
We are proud of our long-standing tradition of excellence and success in both team and individual sports. Our students thrive in an environment that celebrates participation, encourages ambition and nurtures talent – whether they’re aspiring athletes or discovering new skills.
Our well-equipped facilities, committed staff, and highly engaged students make this a department with immense potential for continued growth and innovation.
Purpose of the job
The Head of PE will play a pivotal role in elevating student attainment, driving curriculum excellence and championing a vibrant sporting culture across the school. You will lead, inspire and manage a dedicated team to ensure that TWGSB continues to deliver:
- Outstanding teaching and learning across all key stages
- Effective and innovative use of resources
- Continually rising standards in both academic PE and practical performance
- Inclusive, engaging opportunities for students of all abilities.
This position would suit an experienced PE teacher already within a large department ready to step up or a HOD within a smaller school who is looking to increase their leadership skills and impact. You will have a proven track record in academic success and curriculum innovation.
Joining TWGSB means becoming part of an ambitious, supportive and collaborative school environment. We are proud to offer:
- Highly motivated, capable and engaged students
- A supportive leadership team, including the dedicated guidance of an Assistant Headteacher
- Excellent facilities, equipment and resources to support high-quality curriculum delivery
- A welcoming and inclusive staff culture, where collaboration and well-being matter
- Opportunities for ongoing professional development and career progression
- A chance to help shape – and expand – a department with an already strong reputation.
You will join a talented, multidisciplinary team committed to providing a personalised and holistic approach to education and student well-being.
The larger campus for TWGSB is in Tunbridge Wells. However, you will be required to work at other campuses connected to TWGSB and be expected to oversee co-curricular activities and both campuses.
We are currently undergoing a period of transformational change benefiting from a multi-million pound investment in Tunbridge Wells and a brand new building at our Sevenoaks campus, which opened in September 2021. From September 2025 Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys will be one of the largest boys’ grammar schools in the country. Here we all share the same vision: ‘To be the best selective boys’ school in West Kent’ and our journey towards achieving this continues to be an exciting one.
We can offer you the opportunity to work with highly able young people in a supportive, well-equipped and forward-thinking school. We offer a friendly and inclusive working environment and the chance to be part of a fantastic multidisciplinary team, who work hard and support each other to deliver personalised, bespoke education and care.
Staff benefit from a positive working environment, with strong support for professional development and specialist teaching rooms. We aim for high standards and the pursuit of academic excellence, helping every student to reach their full potential through the development of skills, concepts and knowledge, within the framework of a caring community. Relationships between staff and students are based on trust, mutual respect and a determination to succeed.
