This is a key senior role at an important stage in CSL’s development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape a more ambitious, commercially focused approach to income generation, service performance and use of Group assets, while working within the values and purpose of a major college group.
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Managing Director Corporate Services, the Group Commercial Director will lead the strategic development, performance and growth of CSL’s commercial services across UCS College Group. The role will identify and develop opportunities to grow income, improve customer-facing services, strengthen commercial controls and maximise the value of Group assets, while ensuring commercial activity supports learner and staff experience, employer and community engagement, financial sustainability, service quality and compliance.
The post has significant organisational reach: CSL employs over 260 staff and operates across four campuses, including 11 catering outlets, two theatres, one conference centre and one childcare setting.
The role will translate Group and CSL strategy into a clear commercial roadmap, supported by service plans, income and contribution targets, pricing discipline, contract frameworks, customer insight and well-governed delivery arrangements. The postholder will work closely with the Managing Director, Group SLT, College leaders, finance, HR, procurement, marketing, external partners and customers, and will directly line manage the Group Head of Catering, Group Head of Theatre and Childcare Manager. The role will provide senior leadership across commercial services including catering, theatres, nurseries, transport, lettings, residences, commercial property opportunities and other income-generating activity
