Who are we?
We are the professional body for UK paramedics, a membership organisation and a Royal Charter charity. As a Royal College, we lead the paramedic profession and support our members to provide the best possible clinical care and support to their patients.
We contribute our unique and extensive knowledge and experience to debate, discuss, and influence policy making within the NHS, government departments and wider communities. We provide comment and insight to the media, publish the British Paramedic Journal, supporting paramedic-led research and offer expert insight into governmental and system-wide policy consultation across the UK.
By setting the curriculum and educational standards for paramedic qualifications, including university degrees and post-registration curricula, we make sure our paramedics have the highest level of rounded skills and knowledge enabling them to provide expert practice and critical thinking, whatever their role.  Over the course of their career journey we are there for our members, side by side, offering continuous professional development (CPD), through training programmes, conferences, events and practical opportunities for additional learning with our partners in all areas of practice. Our ambition to advance standards and be at the leading edge of new developments, and technological innovation is set out in our latest strategy, and we are committed to research and evidence-based decisions.
Paramedics can experience considerable trauma and challenges in their day-to-day work as clinicians, dealing at times with the toughest of situations. Whilst their focus is on the patient, we help make sure they are supported and know that we are with our members in their times of need.
We also look to the future and are passionate about supporting young people, and those whose career may take an alternative pathway, whatever their background or circumstances, to aspire to a career in paramedicine.
