Job Overview

As the skilled Maintenance & Grounds assistant this roles supports the Estate Manager to
ensure the School’s grounds and facilities, in which the School takes great pride, are
maintained to the highest possible standard.

Duties and
Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  Assist with repair and maintenance of internal and external buildings on the School

campus, which includes basic carpentry and plumbing

  Assist with general grounds maintenance to include grass cutting and hedge cutting
  Assist with the maintenance of the School’s swimming facilities
  Safely operate a wide range of power tools, reporting and recording any

defects/incidents promptly

  Marshal and assist with general tasks associated with School events (e.g. Sports Day,

Prize Giving, Bonfire Night etc.)

  Assist with set up of facilities e.g. moving furniture and equipment in support of

School activities and events

  Drive the School minibuses and other School vehicles as requested
  Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the appropriate risk assessment and

method statement in conjunction with the Estate Manager

  Provide occasional weekend and evening work as required in support of the School’s

calendar of events and activities

  Assist with any other reasonable duties as requested by the Estate Manager and/or

Director of Finance & Operations

post holder carry out other reasonable duties commensurate with their skills and
abilities.

Keys Skills &
Knowledge:

  Proven experience of general building maintenance, including plumbing and basic

carpentry

  Proficient in the use of various power tools (large and small)

  Experience of grounds maintenance
  Full, clean and valid driving licence, with D1 unrestricted, PSV licence, D1 restricted

(car licence obtained prior to 01.01.1997) a distinct advantage.

  Experience of driving a minibus or similar e.g. large van

  Flexible and willing to assist with a wide range of building maintenance and grounds
duties as well as undertake other duties to support the smooth running of the Estate
department

  Able to follow instructions and work effectively with limited supervision as well as

part of a team

  Able to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines, seeking advice where necessary
  Confident to recognise and suggest enhancements to existing responsibilities
  Able and willing to work weekends and evenings on an occasional basis
  Honest, punctual and reliable, with a strong work ethic
  Willing to undertake the necessary training to carry out the role and enhance the

services delivered by the school

Probationary
Period

  This role is subject to a probationary period of 12 months from the start of

employment, and may be extended at the School’s discretion.

  Performance and suitability for continued employment will be reviewed throughout

the probationary period.
