PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Studios’ Documentary Unit is looking for a Shooting Researcher, to join the team responsible for producing 114 current affairs, special project and arts films on the BBC’s hugely successful magazine programme, The One Show.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM


The team are looking for somebody with strong self-shooting skills who works well alongside Producers / Directors filming interviews and GVs on second camera for fast turnaround, short form content. 
The ideal candidate would be somebody who is happy to work on location across the UK, is an adaptable people person, used to working with a contributors and presenters and has strong technical and editorial understanding to help shape ideas into clear, impactful stories. 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

You’ll be working alongside our team of four Producers / Directors on multiple shoots each week, building strong working relationships and filming across the UK. You will be required to source and operate kit depending on the shoot requirements, share driving responsibilities to and from location and shoot second camera interviews and GVs using predominantly Sony FX6 cameras. 
You will be starting to develop your own style and visual flair, meaning you can offer GVs, cutaways and occasional sequences on location to compliment the PD’s master footage. You will be expected to deliver clear and correct ingest logs to our post house to ensure that edits run smoothly. 
You will be required to source archive using BBC Systems and external sources. An understanding of clearing and tracking archive is a must to assist the production management team with clearances, and the edit team with post production paperwork.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


The team are looking for someone who:

  • Is confident shooting second camera / GVs on Sony FX6s under the direction of the PD or Director, and providing further technical support as required.
  • Is able to use additional kit such as go pros, osmos, gimbals, lighting and sound equipment.
  • Has experience of filming on location and be adept at dealing with a range of contributors from all walks of life, as well as presenters and reporters.
  • Has experience working on fast turnaround shortform content with an understanding of the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
  • Has experience of backing up rushes and helping source archive via BBC systems and external sources and user generated content.
  • Can ensure contributor release forms are all completed on location during shoots.
  • Is a confident and experienced driver.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • You will be familiar with working on location.
  • A people person - you will be comfortable meeting contributors from all walks of life, able to put people at ease whilst you film them, often in their own homes.
  • Your technical skills will be second to none, meaning you’ll be proactive in thinking ahead as to what is required by your self-shooting director, supporting them to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Your shooting skills will be strong enough that your director can rely upon you to shoot second camera confidently, producing rushes of a high standard, suitable for transmission on BBC One.
  • Proven ability to work with new and emerging technologies to deliver content to audiences in the most effective ways.
  • The ability to problem solve and suggest effective solutions
