Expression of Interest to Conduct Crop Cut Experiments Under the FtMA Project

The Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA), in partnership with Farm Africa and Nafaka Kilimo, invites qualified firms to express interest in conducting Crop Cut Experiments (CCE) aimed at scientifically measuring smallholder farmers’ productivity and assessing the impact of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) interventions across Tanzania.

The initiative is part of FtMA’s ongoing efforts, seeks to strengthen smallholder farmers’ resilience and improve market access through its Farmer-Allied Aggregator Model and a network of 573 Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) supporting over 181,000 farmers in six regions — Manyara, Singida, Morogoro, Iringa, Njombe, and Mbeya.

During the 2025/2026 agricultural season, the CCE will be implemented in Manyara (Babati, Hanang, Kiteto), Iringa (Mufindi), and Mbeya (Mbarali) districts, targeting key value chains including maize, paddy, sunflower, and common beans.

The CCE Objectives are: –

§ Determine the average yield per hectare and conduct a cost-benefit analysis of paddy, maize, sunflower, and common beans value chains at the district level under the FtMA program.

§ Compare the average crop production performance under CSA versus conventional farming systems.

§ Conduct cost-benefit analysis and determine the return on investment (ROI) for CSA versus conventional systems in the selected value chains at harvest and peak season.

§ Provide evidence-based recommendations to enhance productivity-supporting services and products within the FtMA program.

Firms with at least five years of experience in agriculture and proven expertise in conducting crop cut experiments are encouraged to submit their proposals by 24th October 2025 to infotanzania@farmafrica.org.

The consultancy is expected to run through June 2026, generating vital data to inform policy, investment, and advisory services under the FtMA program.
