          Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in becoming an apprentice at Jamie’s Farm. Don’t worry if
it’s your first job application. Just be honest, tell us about yourself and ask if you have
any questions. We’re here to help!

There is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ candidate for a Jamie’s Farm apprenticeship, we
are more interested in your potential to thrive in this role than your past achievements.
You do not have to have achieved certain grades to qualify for this role – many of the
young people we work with on the farm find school a challenging place to be, and we
are keen to find apprentices who may be able to identify with this!

       About Jamie’s Farm

Jamie’s Farm is a working farm and charity that gives young people a chance to reset,
reflect, and build confidence. We welcome groups of young people throughout the year
to live and work on the farm for a week. They help with animals, cooking, gardening and
more, and our apprentices are a key part of making it all happen.

We use a regenerative farming approach that protects our environment, and we hope
you’ll love being a part of that.

You can watch a short film about a week on Jamie’s Farm here.

         About the Role

We’re looking for one Farm Apprentice to join each of these farm teams. You’ll help with
all the daily work that keeps our farm running and make sure that the young people who
visit us have an amazing experience too.

You’ll be part of a welcoming team, learning lots of hands-on skills in farming and
animal care, while also supporting young visitors during their week-long stays at
Jamie’s Farm.

Jamie’s Farm is home to busy, working farms where we care for animals like cows,
sheep, pigs and chickens. We do things in a way that’s good for the environment - like
moving animals around different fields to keep the land healthy, planting a mix of
grasses and herbs for them to eat, and growing more hedges to support wildlife.

We believe farming is a brilliant way to help young people grow confidence,
responsibility and skills. If you love being outdoors, enjoy physical work, and are keen to
learn more about animals and farming, this could be a great first step in your career.

We’re looking for someone who’s practical, reliable, and ready to muck in with the
team. You’ll be supported by experienced farmers, and there will be chances to visit our
other farms and learn even more.

            What you’ll do

• Check on animals every day to make sure they have food, water, and are healthy
• Help run farm sessions and “Feeding Rounds” with visiting young people
• Work with animals during tasks like weighing, vaccinating, or worming (you’ll be

shown how)

• Be part of the lambing and calving seasons, when baby animals are born – these

are busy but exciting times!

• Put up and look after electric fences and water pipes, and help move animals to

new fields

• Use equipment like tractors, quad bikes (ATVs), and simple tools when needed

(Some of these require you to have completed training before you are able to use
them. Your college will offer different training opportunities for you to sign up to.)

• Help keep the farm safe and tidy
• Learn how to keep basic records to meet our farm standards

• Take your turn working the weekend sometimes – this will be part of your paid

hours

             Learn on the job

You’ll work towards a Level 3 Livestock Unit Technician qualification (or Level 2
General Farm Worker, depending on your experience). We’ll help you find a training
provider and support you with your application. Your work on the farm will take place on
the days when you aren’t in college.

Don’t worry if you didn’t pass English or Maths GCSEs. We can help you gain your
functional skills, too.

The skills you will learn, and the qualification you will work towards, will enable you to
go on to a range of different careers once your time with Jamie’s Farm comes to an end.

                                                   Who we’re looking for

You don’t need lots of experience or top grades. We’re looking for someone who:

Is aged 17–21 (you must have finished Year 11)

•
• Wants to work in farming or with animals in the future
• The Lewes Team are particularly interested in someone keen on equine and

farming
Is happy getting muddy and working hard outdoors

•
• Can be a positive role model to young people
• Wants to live and work in a rural setting
•

Is reliable, curious, and ready to learn new things

     What you’ll get

• A generous 39 days holiday (pro rata)
• Meals during working hours
• Training, mentorship, and support to grow
• Travel and accommodation covered when working away from your main farm
• Extra support if you need help with travel or other costs

✅ Before you apply...

Make sure you:

• Fill in the application form or send in a short video
