We have a great opportunity for a retail professional to join the Charity on an interim basis to make a difference...

The current Executive Director for Retail and Lottery is leaving the charity, prompting a reconsideration of portfolios at Executive Director level. While the retail function will ultimately be realigned within a broader Directorate, there is a need for dedicated senior leadership and support in the short term to ensure the function has clarity of direction, delivers operational excellence, and is fit for the future.

About the role:

The Interim Deputy Director of Retail will lead the charity’s retail operation to maximise sustainable net income, strengthen brand presence in communities, and provide excellent supporter and customer experiences, while ensuring full compliance and alignment with the charity’s values and policies. They will lead the development of a 3-5 year retail strategy for the organisation, within the context of a wider income generation strategy that is currently in development.

The post holder will be based at our Head Office in Sully but will be expected to frequently visit the shops within the portfolio (geographically spread in Wales from Cardigan in the west to Abergavenny in the east). The expectation is for a minimum of 4 days per week on site/ shops.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 10 yrs multi-site retail leadership roles (charity or commercial), profit & loss ownership, delivering growth and transformation.
  • Strategic planning skills with sound commercial acumen
  • Proficient IT skills with a high level of data literacy
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, able to build effective relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Coaching and change leadership skills
  • Sound knowledge of Charity retail context (Gift Aid, volunteer engagement)
  • An understanding of compliance requirements e.g. H&S, safeguarding, retail and supply/stock flow.
