Rowans Hospice is a charity that provides free care and support to adults and their families living in the Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire region who have a life-limiting illness. Established in 1994, our income is generated by ongoing support of the local community, donations, legacies, fundraising and through our retail shops.
The Role
The Health Care Support Worker role will work in the In-Patient Unit which is led by the Ward Manager who are responsible to Director of Care. The role is based at Rowans Hospice, Purbrook.
The Health Care Support Worker will carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care in support of and supervised by a first or second level Registered Nurse and to assist in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and order on the unit.
The successful applicant will hold NVQ3 or equivalent and will be able to demonstrate experience within a Palliative Care environment.
Key Areas of Responsibility/Key Accountabilities include but not limited to:
- To provide a high-quality nursing service to patients and their relatives by following set policies, procedures, guidelines and standards
- To assist qualified staff with general and specific care of patients within the hospice guidelines
- To assist the trained nurse with the administration of medicines as required
- To efficiently undertake duties requested by the qualified nurses
- To be flexible to work within other Sisters Teams according to patient dependency as directed by the Nurse Co-ordinator
- To report any observed deterioration or abnormalities in patients to the Nurse Co-ordinator/Team Leader
- To keep the unit and other associated areas neat and tidy
- To ensure that ideas to improve the care of patients, or to enrich their quality of life are brought to the attention of the Sister
- To report to the Nurse Co-ordinator/Team Leader any concerns related to inappropriate care a patient may be receiving
- To demonstrate a consistent level of courtesy and consideration to patients, their relatives and visitors
