Job Purpose

This is a hands-on role focused on managing and delivering high-quality content across digital channels including social media, website and email to promote events, increase fundraising income and raise awareness of our mission. You will have proven experience as a skilled content creator, communicator and community builder with an excellent eye for design and tone and a passion for storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management
  • Manage day-to-day activity across all social media platforms ensuring content is timely, relevant and on brand.
  • Input to the social strategy, aligning activity with campaigns and events.
  • Engage with followers and relevant content – including the cricket community and influencers to drive further growth and engagement.
Content Creation & Copywriting
  • Create high-quality, engaging content – including video, photo and graphic content across social, website, blog and email.
  • Write compelling, brand aligned copy that promotes our fundraising, mission and comms efforts.
  • Collaborate across departments to tell powerful, impactful stories.
Community Building
  • Grow and nurture our online communities including across social, web and database
  • Identify and engage with influencers, partners and ambassadors to extend our reach.
Website & Email Management
  • Create, manage and optimise website content (WordPress) to improve search rankings, user engagement, and SEO performance.
  • Create direct marketing campaigns on marketing automation platform (DotDigital)
  • Devise and execute strategies to grow our database using our existing platforms as well as researching and surfacing new ones.
Analytics & Reporting
  • Utilise analytics to feed into and help inform decision making.
  • Monitor performance and use insights to suggest immediate and longer-term campaign optimisations to maximise KPIs.

Expertise Required

  • Proven relevant experience in the non-profit, corporate or agency sectors.
  • Strong understanding and ear to the ground attitude towards social media/digital platforms and trends.
  • Demonstrable ability to create engaging, impactful content across different formats.
  • Knowledge and experience with various online and digital content management and analytics tools. e.g. Microsoft365, WordPress, Dotdigital, Canva, Adobe Suite, Google Analytics, Meta insights etc.
  • Strong organisational skills and an ability to work calmly under pressure whilst balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional accuracy in copywriting.
  • Able to work with sensitivity around topics of incurable cancers and grief.
  • Understanding of or interest in cricket and sport a plus.

About The Foundation

In early 2018, Ruth Strauss, the late wife of Sir Andrew Strauss, the former England cricket captain, was diagnosed with an incurable lung cancer that affects non-smokers. Ruth died on 29 December 2018; she was 46 years old and mother to two children, then aged 10 and 13.

In her memory, Sir Andrew has launched The Ruth Strauss Foundation to:

  • Provide emotional support for families to prepare for the death of a parent from cancer
  • Raise awareness of the need for more research & collaboration in the fight against non-smoking lungcancers
