Animal Care Technician – Farm Animals (Including Donkeys)

About the Role

Are you passionate about animal welfare and looking to make a real difference? Shaftesbury Millie College is seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician to join our team, working primarily with a variety of farm animals—including donkeys, goats and sheep. You’ll play a vital role in supporting our educational and therapeutic programs, ensuring the highest standards of care and wellbeing for our animals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily care routines for all farm animals, including feeding, cleaning, and health monitoring.

  • Assist with veterinary visits and maintain hygiene standards across the animal provision.

  • Prepare animals for educational and therapeutic sessions, supporting students (including those with special needs).

  • Ensure compliance with licensing regulations and maintain accurate records.

  • Work as part of a rota to provide consistent care, including some weekend and holiday cover.

What We’re Looking For

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and empathetic individuals with a genuine passion for animal welfare.

  • Calm and adaptable approach, able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Experience working with farm animals, and equines/ donkeys, is highly desirable.

  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and excellence in animal care.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team of staff and volunteers.

  • An interest in the delivery of animal assisted therapy
